is a non-profit, volunteer dog rescue organization serving the Lower RGV area. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless for whatever reason – dogs in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse or neglect. We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed per

manent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives. Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority. We are determined to keep administrative expenses extremely low so that virtually every dollar taken in goes directly to the care of the animals. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dog beyond the adoption process. Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by Tractor Supply this Saturday to meet our amazing BAD doggies for this past adoption event! It was great to see so many friendly faces and share our passion for animal rescue. We are so happy to announce that a couple of our beloved rescue doggies found their furever homes! Your support means the world to us and makes our mission possible.

A special shoutout goes to Tractor Supply for their unwavering support and for providing us with a space to showcase our dogs and connect with our community. To the students from Veterans Memorial High School, for coming together and making a real difference for our doggies in need at Brownsville Animal Defense. Your hard work and generosity brought in almost 950 pounds worth of dog food—an incredible donation that will help comfort and nourish pups who are counting on us. We’re genuinely grateful for the time, energy, and heart you put into organizing this drive and making sure our rescue partners have what they need.

Seeing the next generation of Brownsville working together like this fills us with so much hope. We are coming to you today with yet another heartbreaking situation.

Yesterday we were able safely secure this beautiful momma and her babies. When we arrived, mommy was no where in sight, while her babies (due to recent weather) were practically sitting in a puddle. After a few moments we located the momma in tall grass, with 2 more babies! We were able to quickly secure the other babies, however momma was reluctant to accept our help.

Momma and her babies are now safe and secure. They will all need time to rest, relax, and decompress. In the mean time these babies (which seem about 1 week old) are all being cleaned up, and will start the journey towards a new life!

We would like to thank the wonderful employee from The Law Office of Gilberto Hinojosa, for reaching out to us! We only wish we had the chance to step in sooner!

As a foster based rescue group, with no official boarding facility, we are limited to our volunteer foster availability. We would encourage you, and your family to consider becoming a Furry Companion Foster Parent, and help save a life!

We just want to say a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who came out to support BAD and our sweet doggies at PetSmart this weekend. Seeing all of you stop by, show love, and cheer for our rescue pups meant the world to us. Thank you for helping create those happy moments—watching families welcome brand-new furry members into their homes was truly unforgettable, and we’re so grateful you gave our doggies a second chance at life.

A special thank you to Spot the Dog 956 for coming out and hanging out with us—we loved having you there! We also want to give a big thanks to PetSmart for providing the space for our adoption event and giving us the opportunity to come back and connect with our community. We are urgently seeking compassionate animal lovers to join our foster family, and help care for not only current doggies under our wing, but the stray dogs of our community.

By becoming a foster, it enables us to rescue, rehabilitate, and find a forever home, for another dog in need.
Brownsville Animal Defense is not a shelter, we are a small rescue group solely based on volunteers, fosters, and donations. With the help of foster families we are able to keep going with our mission of helping doggies in need within our community!

At BAD, we provide everything your foster doggie needs - from food, kennel, toys, blankets, treats, collar, leash, harness, to essential vet care. All we ask is for your kindness in giving them a temporary, loving home. Whether you can foster for 3 weeks, 6 months, or a year, every bit counts in transforming their lives. We want to give a big thank you to everyone who came out and showed their support at our adoption event this weekend with our friends at Tractor Supply! We were so happy to see you all stop by, say hello, and help make the day feel extra special. We also loved getting to see our previous adopters come through again—your continued love and support means the world, and it’s such a beautiful reminder of how great these stories can be.

We’re especially grateful for the best news of all: a couple doggies were adopted this weekend and are starting the next chapter of their lives in their fur-ever homes. Watching them find their families is truly the heart of what we do, and we’re so thankful you were part of it—every visit, every smile, and every kind word helped make it happen.
