Improving Lives through the Community of Golf. YOUTH PILLAR: PGA Jr.

The PGA REACH Carolinas foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and philanthropic arm of the Carolinas PGA Section, the largest of the 41 sections in the United States of America. Our Carolinas PGA Members across North & South Carolina are committed to serving our communities and growing the game of golf through our three pillars – Youth, Military, and Diversity & Inclusion. League is a fun

, social, and inclusive opportunity for boys and girls, ages 17 & under, to enjoy the game of golf. Drive, Chip and Putt is a free nationwide junior golf development competition aimed at growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills employed in golf. By tapping the creative and competitive spirit of girls and boys ages 7-15, Drive, Chip, and Putt provides aspiring junior golfers an opportunity to play with their peers in qualifiers around the country. MILITARY PILLAR: PGA HOPE Carolinas (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is an adaptive golf program offered by our PGA Professionals as a rehabilitation tool to improve our Veterans’ quality of life by enhancing their mental, social, physical, and emotional well-being. DIVERSITY & INCLUSION: The PGA WORKS Fellowship is one of the flagship programs of PGA REACH. The PGA WORKS Fellowship aspires to be the most valuable entry-level employment opportunity for individuals from diverse backgrounds to garner experience in all facets of the golf industry. The Sunny Harris Hutchinson PGA WORKS Fellowship will go on in perpetuity in the Carolinas PGA Section and will continue to help evolve the changing demographic composition of the golf industry workforce so that it reflects the demographic composition of modern-day America.

For this month’s REACH Member Spotlight, we’re proud to highlight Kirk Mitchell from Oldfield Club in Okatie, SC!☀️

Kirk has been a PGA Jr. League Coach for seven years, growing his program from just 20 players in 2020 to nearly 50 golfers across three 13U and 17U teams today. This season, he led his 17U Bluffton All-Star team to a Section Championship at Grandover Resort, creating a special full-circle moment at the same course where he won the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship as a player at Greensboro College.🏆

Kirk’s passion for coaching goes beyond developing great golfers—he is dedicated to helping young players reach their potential, build lasting friendships, and grow both on and off the course.

Highlights from this Jr League season with our PGA WORKS Fellow, Shelby!👏

Throughout 4 Section Qualifiers and the Section Championship, Shelby gained hands-on experience facilitating Jr. League tournaments. She was on the ground learning tournament operations, assisting with everything from match scoring and eligibility to applying local rules and managing course setups. Excited to see her learn and grow as a Fellow!🏆

For this month’s PGA REACH Member spotlight, we’re proud to highlight Tom Mason from Par Tee Golf Center in West Columbia, SC!

Tom is a PGA Professional, Director & Owner of Par Tee Golf Center, and the head golf coach at Columbia College. With over two decades of dedicated service to the game Tom’s leadership on and off the course speaks for itself.

From coaching junior golfers to the PGA Junior League National Finals to earning the 2019 Carolinas PGA Golf Professional of the Year award, Tom has devoted his career to growing the game, mentoring young athletes and strengthening our golf community across the Carolinas.

The Carolinas PGA is proud to welcome our newest National PGA HOPE Ambassador, Jim Lewis! Jim was selected to represent the Carolinas at the 2026 PGA HOPE National Golf & Wellness Week at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland this October!

Jim joined Raleigh in 2024 and instantly established himself as both a participant and a leader. His impact was immediate, and we’re thrilled he has this opportunity to represent the Carolinas on the national stage.

Monday’s 102nd Carolinas Open CPGA REACH Pro-Am at The Cliffs at Mountain Park kicked off championship week with a cause. Amateurs and Carolinas PGA Professionals teamed up for a round benefitting PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere), our program that uses golf as a rehabilitation tool for veterans at no cost to them. Thanks to everyone who came out, the day raised $20,000 for PGA HOPE. Grateful for every player, partner, and supporter who made it happen.

We’ve been traveling throughout the Carolinas this past month, watching young golfers showcase their skills and passion for the game. With just one local qualifier remaining, we’re looking forward to wrapping up an incredible qualifying season and cheering on the final group of competitors👏

This past week, Shelby represented the Carolinas through PGA WORKS at the Underrated Golf Tour Tour in Gainesville, FL as a Tournament Scoring Coordinator.

Throughout the week, she helped get junior players started each morning, managed tournament scoring, and gained valuable experience in tournament operations. She also had the opportunity to collaborate with the Southern Ohio PGA WORKS Fellow, working together throughout the week to support tournament operations and ensure the event ran smoothly. Working behind the scenes provided a firsthand look at the planning, coordination, and teamwork required to successfully host a multi-day event.
