I actually follow Roger Ebert's critiques. However I will say, one of the draw backs in film criticism, is that I feel, most critics, only have film history to use as a comparison to newer concepts, which are quickly evolving, due to technology, and the fan boys of old, growing up and making movies.
Here is Ebert's thoughts on the film Thor. Score 38... ?
The standards for comic book superhero movies have been established by "Superman," "The Dark Knight," "Spider-Man 2" and "Iron Man." In that company "Thor" is pitiful. Consider even the comparable villains (Lex Luthor, the Joker, Doc Ock and Obadiah Stane). Memories of all four come instantly to mind. Will you be thinking of Loki six minutes after this movie is over?
Here's Roger after The Avengers. Score 75... ?
When I see these six together, I can't help thinking of the champions at the Westminster Dog Show. You have breeds that seem completely different from one another (Labradors, poodles, boxers, Dalmatians), and yet they're all champions.
Ebert... Do you remember Loki now?
