Do It for Dominic D

Do It for Dominic D Dominic DePalma was a CO athlete who earned many soccer accolades in his too-short life. Dominic, 17, was killed by a drunk driver in July 2022.

This page aims to prevent more teen deaths, and also honor athletes who have grit via scholarship opps.

Roger serves as our Secretary and is Dominic’s uncle. He is a former administrator for Jeffco Schools who bravely led his district through the changes in education brought by 2020, and an educator for Adams County Schools. His experience in board management includes the Dorian DeLong Arts and Music Scholarship, from which he brilliantly brings that experience to our board of directors. Roger serves as board secretary and runs communications, auctions, and events. He always seems to bring a fresh perspective, focus big ideas down into meaningful steps, and give his board the confidence that we are on the right track. Roger is passionate about commemorating Dominic's legacy with Do It for Dominic D and to sustain his passion for this year's fun and healthy activity." Thanks, Roger, for all you do!

Help us honor Dominic this Memorial Day. A donation in Dominic’s memory is more than a gift.

It helps start hard conversations before prom, graduation parties, summer nights, and long weekends.

It reminds us to make the right decisions with stickers on cars, water bottles, and bracelets on wrists.

It brings Dominic’s story into schools so teens know they have choices before they get into a car.

It supports soccer players who earn Dominic's scholarship to continue to carry his
legacy out on Colorado soccer fields.

This Memorial Day weekend, honor Dominic by helping us protect the next kid, the next teammate, the next friend. Make a donation today. 💚

Happy Graduation Day, Broomfield Eagles! If you plan to celebrate tonight but aren't sure how to get out of a sticky situation on graduation night? Try one of these.

“My mom just texted. I’ve gotta go.”
“I’m not feeling great. I’m heading out.”
“I’ve got practice early. I’m out.”
“Your car sounded terrible on the way here! I'm getting a ride with someone else.”

Remember, you don't have to explain anything! Say whatever you need to say to get home safe.

Screenshot this or save it for when you need it.

Sometimes it's the little things ... but somewhere along the way you realize that they are the BIG things.

After I printed last year's post cards at Westminster Staples, Manager Corey asked about our cause then enthusiastically agreed to print our programs, signs, posters, and displays as his way of spreading the message of keeping impaired people from driving.

If you are printing senior posters, need graduation party supplies, or even printer ink, envelopes, or labels for your graduation announcements, follow in Dominic's steps and Staples. They do a fantastic job with their print services. Thank you, Corey!

“You’re the reason a family doesn’t get that call.” Thank you to for being the turf sponsors at last year's luncheon. Your generous sponsorship helps us get the message out to teens in our area about how to stay safe and make good choices. You've been willing to do anything we ask, and we can't thank you enough.

Under the direction of Liam Sinclair, Broomfield Soccer Club's 2005 Prestige, also known as The Boys of Broomfield, reached the highest level of success in all three ways a soccer team could excel. They consistently won their Premier 1 league play, ranked highest in the Colorado Soccer Association (which often ranked them in the top 10 in the nation), and won the prestigious Colorado State Cup. If you attended any of Dominic's events and wondered who the group of massively tall boys is, that would be Dominic's soccer team. I often hear people say, "What is in the water in Broomfield?"

Omari Bursey, 2005B Premier, BSC, says, “Liam was definitely the most personable Coach I've ever had; he put his players first. He pushed us not only as soccer players, but as young men as well. He was a great coach by reinforcing tough love, which I think helps every young man he encounters!”

Omari now plays college football for Villanova.

Gavin Gartner, 2005B, BSC, remembers when “I broke my leg in a game and then after I got my cast and crutches, I couldn't play, but I really wanted to still be involved with the team. Instead of me just sitting there for all practice, he bought me a board and magnets to help him coach and come up with ideas to make the team better, fun drills, and formations. Basically, all the stuff a coach does, and he had me sit next to him at the games and "help him coach,” but that just shows how much he cared for us and how much he was still there to support. Liam was one of my favorite coaches and helped me find love for soccer.”

After competing at Cal Poly Humboldt, Gavin is finishing his college journey playing soccer at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

Thank you, Coach Liam!

No matter what your Mother's Day looks like, please remember that you are the most important mother that you know. As moms, it is easy to nurture others, even at the expense of nurturing ourselves.

I have been surrounded by selfless, nurturing, go-out-of-your way moms. Not one of you can comprehend how much meaning your messages, green hearts, sunsets, rainbows, orbs, dragonflies, lady bugs, and humming birds, still have in making it through the tough(er) days, not to mention those who still walk with me, volunteer to share Do It for Dominic D's mission, spoil Eleana, cheer her on, vow to keep her safe in your company, visit with Gino, spend Saturdays with us, and enrich our lives in your unique and meaningful ways.

If you have done any of these things for me, my Mother's Day wish is that you find a way to nourish yourself today, too.

And if the rest of you want to know what your mom wants most for Mother's Day, she would love nothing more than a big, long, awkward hug from you. That is it. (I hold space for those who are not able to hug their moms.)

Well, maybe she would also like to not have to clean the house tomorrow because she took today off.

Broomfield High School Eagles, we want you to get home safe from Prom this weekend!

At some point during the night, you’re going to hear it:
“I’m fine to drive.”

And for a second… you might believe them.
Or at least not want to make it awkward.
But don't give in and think it's okay. We're here to tell you it doesn't always work out.
Make your plan now—before you’re in it.
Book the Uber.
Designate a driver.
Call your parents (yes, even late.)

Because getting home safe isn’t something you figure out at the end of the night.
It’s something you decide before the night starts. Get home safe, we love you!
