It is that time of year again, Active Relocation Season!
This year we have lost some of our prized field helpers that are trained in handling wildlife and relocation techniques. Because of this, we will be looking for more volunteers and if you have past training & experience and would be available to help during the week, we may have contract labor positions open.
This is a great opportunity to help our native wildlife in desperate need. All too often we are unable to help these animals.
Just this week I was contacted about another "justified" poisoning that took place in a local neighborhood. The people who ordered it have been telling the public that they hired a "relocator," that they would never kill a prairie dog. Well, what they did was hire one exterminator and then another exterminator to "relocate" dead animals to the ferret program as food for ferrets. We want everyone to know that this is not humane live relocation. It seems lying to the public is accepted in today's world.
This is the truth - A true humane relocation involves a live animal all the way through the process and is released back onto the prairie to live out their lives and serve the ecosystem fully. This is the only kind of relocation that Prairie Dog Action performs.
We have had a tough week and it isn't over yet, but if you are interested in helping with relocation efforts in the following areas, Lafayette, Thornton, Parker, Kiowa, Pueblo and Castle Rock to start with, let me know. At least we can help some of these animals in need during the next three months.
