I have watched Joseph Harrin for 21 years and there is not a more dedicated teacher that I have seen. He works into the night outside in the hot sun responsible for up to 100 students. He has to develop music programs, marching designs, and schedule buses for the season. Then they go into their concert and performance season. At one time he was directing bands at HHS and Parrott so Parrott didn't lose it's music program. I was a band student under the legendary Lonnie Keen at Brandon High School in Hillsborough in the 80s so I know the time, heart (literally), and soul they give not only to the program but also to each and every band member. They become a second, sometimes a first, father figure to them. They impart knowledge, understanding, and wisdom about music and life. There is no way to replace them and they are greatly cherished and missed. SUPPORT your band and music programs because for some students they are the only family they have. FRIDAY NIGHTS are boring without a good band. These are also some of the brightest students in the school. Have a Blessed year. Go Leopards 🐆!

Joseph is a respected educator, a strong leader in our county, and an inspiring example of the difference one person can make through commitment, passion, and service to others.
As students and teachers return to the classroom, we’re proud to shine a light on an educator who represents our community so well.
“As for what makes me limitless, after 25 years in the classroom I feel as though I am as motivated now as I was my very first year on the job. Working for the Hernando County School District and at Hernando High, where I graduated, is an honor and a privilege that I don’t take for granted and I hope that I am able to make just as much an impact on my students as as my teachers made on me.”
A quote I recently saw at the state teacher of the year Roundtable is: “Every day, in every school, every student has a teacher as good as the best teacher any of us ever had.”
That means that there are a lot of truly amazing teachers out there and I know the students of Hernando County are in good hands and I can only hope to be able count myself as one of them.
