Happy !

Today we honor the legacy of the last enslaved African Americans in Texas who were finally informed of their freedom, some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. It was those people, and the generations of Texans who came after them, who made the bold declaration to celebrate this day, marking a reality we know far too well in this country: freedom may be delayed, but it will never be denied.

Though our fight for freedom sadly continues, today we pause to celebrate and embrace the joy of our ancestors who believed in the possibilities of a more promising tomorrow. And in that joy, we remain anchored, steadfast in our pursuit of true freedom and justice for all.

Happy Juneteenth! ❤️🖤💚

Today, we honor freedom, reflect on our history, and celebrate the richness of African American culture and resilience.

Our Juneteenth Story-Time was a joyful day of learning, creativity, and connection. Through picture books, crafts, and games, our young attendees explored the significance of Juneteenth and shared their own creative expressions of what they learned.

A heartfelt thank you to our Arts & Letters Committee for creating such a meaningful experience, and to the parents, families, and children who joined us and made the day so special.

How are you honoring and celebrating Juneteenth today? We’d love to hear in the comments!
