Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees

Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees HWHR was founded in 1992 to respond to the human needs of Haitian refugees & immigrants in the U.S.

Founded in 1992 to respond to the refugee crisis faced by Haitian immigrants in the U.S. and Guantanamo Bay, Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees (HWHR) has provided support to hundreds of families who sought asylum in the US after being persecuted in Haiti. The organization has worked on various relief projects, including disaster relief for Haitian victims of hurricane George in 1998, and tropical

storms and hurricanes that hit Haiti and the Dominican Republic in 2004, 2007, and 2008. HWHR had a relief program for September 11th victims who were displaced immigrant workers. Through this program we provided case management and financial assistance to over 200 individuals and families from Haiti, West Africa and other Caribbean Islands. Currently, HWHR provides comprehensive and culturally sensitive programs that include community education, supportive services and community organizing. Over the past decade, HWHR has also provided solidarity support to communities in Haiti to recover and rebuild in the wake of natural and man-made disasters.

"Tout lòt nasyon yo ki pa bò isit, yo pap fè nou favè pou TPS. Yo sipoze bay nou l paske nou travay, nou patisipe nan ekonomi payi an" - Marie, Fanm Ayisyen pou Refijye Ayisyen

"All of us nations represented here, it's not a favor they're giving us with TPS. They're supppsed to give it to us because we work hard and we contribute to the US economy."

On April 29th, while the Supreme Court heard arguments that could strip TPS from 500,000+ Haitian families, our people were on those steps telling the truth.

This is what it sounds like when our community speaks for itself. Watch the full speech. 🔊

On April 13, 2026, Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees (HWHR) submitted an Amicus Brief in the case of Trump v. Lesly Miot et al and we’ve shared highlights here. In our brief we name the key role that the United States has played for generations in shaping Haiti’s political and economic landscape, contributing to the immense challenges the country currently faces. And yet, at the same time, the U.S. has long sought to turn away Haitian immigrants and refugees.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 29th at 9am, HWHR will join our community members, organizational partners, and concerned allies at a rally on the Supreme Court steps in Washington, DC, to demand justice for Haitian and other immigrants and refugees who require TPS protections.

While the lawyers fight for us inside, we will show our power outside and challenge the longstanding injustices our communities have experienced at the hands of the Trump administration’s inhumane and anti-immigrant policies.

We are hopeful the Supreme Court will carefully consider our amicus brief along with the painstaking legal work undertaken by lawyers in this case that point to why TPS protections must be upheld for all, despite intimidation from the Trump administration and its rushed and unjust attempts to use the Court to rule against our lives and livelihoods.

THE SUPREME COURT STEPS. APRIL 29TH. 9AM.

While the lawyers fight for us inside, we show our power outside. Our people will be in that courtroom AND on those steps.

500,000+ Haitian TPS holders and applicants - families, community members, workers. People who built lives here and who BELONG HERE. The Trump administration wants to strip our protections AND make sure no federal courts can ever stop them again, affecting millions of people. We say NO.

This is a fight for our lives, our dignity, and our right to determine our own future.

Come stand with us on the steps of SCOTUS. Bring your voice, your flags, and your signs.

What: Rally for TPS
When: Wednesday April 29th at 9AM
Where: Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, DC

Nou kanpe. Nou pap prale. Nou la pi rèd.

Nan odyans maten an, Jij Reyes rejte apèl gouvènman an. Lap ekri yon desizyon semèn pwochen. Gouvènman sa ap eseye ekspidye apèl nan tout dosye kont terminasyon TPS pou Ayisyen avek lòt nasyon ki genyen TPS men nap kontinye lit la pou nou pwoteje kominotè nou an.

At this morning's hearing, Federal Judge Reyes verbally denied the government's emergency appeal. She will be issuing a written decision by next week. The government has been quick to appeal cases challenging the termination of TPS for Haitians and fellow TPS holders but we will continue to fight and protect our communities.
