Today on the 10th anniversary of the Pulse nightclub mass shooting, we honor and remember the 49 LGBTQ+ people whose lives were tragically stolen in a horrific act of anti-LGBTQ+ hate, and the 58 people who were injured.

This tragedy devastated our community and remains a painful reminder that anti-LGBTQ+ is real, often intersecting with xenophobia, racism, and other forms of hate across the country and globe.

Pulse was more than a nightclub. It was a place where LGBTQ+ people, especially Latine q***r and trans people, could find joy, safety, and belonging. In a world where spaces created for belonging and joy can still be terrorized simply because of who gathers there, we must continue to protect and cherish LGBTQ+ affirming spaces.

For almost 20 years, BCPC has proudly served as an LGBTQ+ affirming space in Brooklyn where anyone can show up year round with pride, and can fully and safely be themselves. Today and everyday we honor and value that role, and continue our deep commitment of protecting and cherishing LGBTQ+ affirming spaces.

will be hosting a rally at the today at 6 pm to honor the lives lost that day. Details are available on their IG page.

Below are some additional and available mental health resources:
▶Today at 5 pm we host TRANScendental, an in person support group for TGNC folks.
▶Mental health resource guide is avaiable on our website
▶Trevor Project- national LGBTQ youth su***de prevention hotline - Call 1-866-488-7386 or text ‘START’ to 678-678

BCPC mourns the passing of Elliot Leonard, whose generosity and vision helped create spaces where LGBTQ+ people could feel seen, supported and fully themselves.

As a longtime LGBTQ+ advocate and the founder of the Leonard-Litz LGBTQ Foundation, Elliot’s legacy has impacted the lives of many, including here in Brooklyn. We are especially grateful for the Foundation’s support of our TGNC Swim program that creates safe, affirming access to swimming, movement, community, and joy for transgender, gender nonconforming, and nonbinary Brooklynites.

The Foundation once shared that supporting this work is essential because TGNC individuals deserve spaces where they can be “fully authentic, safe, and comfortable” while building connection and well-being. They described TGNC Swim as “a truly beautiful program that creates not just access, but a sense of belonging and joy that everyone deserves.”

Those words reflect exactly what this program has become: more than a swim night, it is a space of trust, care, healing, and community. That kind of belonging does not happen by accident. It is made possible by people who believe that LGBTQ+ safety, wellness, and joy are worth investing in.

We are deeply grateful for Elliot’s commitment to our community and for the lasting impact of the Foundation’s support. His legacy will continue to live on in the spaces of belonging, connection, and joy that his generosity helped make possible.
