The Troop returned this past weekend to the Valley Forge Encampment and Pilgrimage for the first time in six years. The E&P is the oldest Scouting event in the world, dating to 1913 and our weekend was full of activity and engagement with American history.
Saturday’s events included our youth leaders participating in the opening flag ceremony, drilling in 18th-century marching, musket demos, learning about period medicine, cooking (and tasting) period camp food and learning about the the life of a Continental soldier in the winter of 1777.
On Sunday we visited Valley Forge National Historical Park and toured 10 miles of history including multiple monuments, sites and talks with interpreters who brought the story of the sacrifices of nearly 250 years ago to life.
It was a weekend of learning and Scout skills and citizenship for all involved.
