What happens at a Mini Space Elevator Workshop? πŸ› οΈ

At ISDC 2026, in partnership with the and , we are hosting three hands-on sessions to teach the core mechanics and requirements of the space elevator.

Here is what you can expect:

Beginner Tracks (2 Sessions): Build a small robotic climber to understand the essential design considerations for WSPEC competitions and learn about the future of space access.

Advanced Track (1 Session): Takes the foundational hardware experience a step further with an introductory programming challenge. (Note: Please bring a laptop for this session!)

Thanks to our sponsors, these workshops are a fun, practical way to understand the engineering behind tethered climbers and get the insight needed to enter a WSPEC competition.

Why Kazakhstan? 🌍

As WSPEC continues to expand its global footprint, reaching new regions is essential to building a worldwide space elevator community. For our upcoming Regional Competition, Kazakhstan was the clear choice to serve as our central hub for Asia:

πŸ“ Ultimate Asian Hub: Situated perfectly in Central Asia, it provides an accessible location for teams from across the continent to gather and compete.

πŸš€ Growing Space Talent: Kazakhstan represents a surging aerospace sector driven by exceptional young talent. In fact, their students became four-time consecutive world champions in robotics at FIRST Global in 2025.

🌌 Proven Infrastructure: With vast open lands for real hardware testing and the established global space hub of Baikonur, the region possesses the practical foundation needed for the next era of aerospace innovation.

This is what going global looks like. We are proud to bring the challenge to Central Asia.

We are excited to share that World Space Elevator Competitions (WSPEC) has launched its Discord server!

While we continue to work on and reach new milestones, we wanted a dedicated space that goes beyond announcements β€” a place for the WSPEC community to connect, collaborate, and discuss the future of space economy.

Whether you’re a student, engineer, or just curious about how we plan to sustainably open up the space economy, this is your chance to find like-minded individuals!

πŸš€ WSPEC is officially expanding to Central Asia!

We are excited to announce that the first WSPEC Regional Competition will be hosted in Kazakhstan this August.

To bring this event to life, WSPEC is partnering with Icarus and Yurt Space, local space teams and organizers on the ground. This regional competition brings the challenge of space elevator development directly to Central Asia, giving innovators, students, and engineers a platform to test their concepts and push the boundaries of space access.

Sign-ups are now open. Gather your team, explore the challenge, and secure your spot today.

As we step into the new year, we are proud to reflect on what WSPEC achieved in 2025.

In less than a year, we established our organization, built operational and financial foundations, developed a global network of partners and advisors, co-hosted our first competition in Japan, and launched educational initiatives alongside opening sign-ups for future challenges.

These achievements were made possible by an international, remote-first team working across time zones and disciplines, all aligned around a shared mission to advance space elevator technologies through open, practical experimentation.
Looking ahead to 2026, our focus is on scaling global competitions, expanding participation, strengthening technical exchange, and continuing to lower barriers for teams entering this field.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of WSPEC’s first year. We look forward to building the next phase together.
