Kingsland Wildflowers is a Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund (GCEF) project committed to expanding natural habitat and green corridors for bird and wildlife populations. The vision, conceived through partnerships with local businesses, community voices and wildlife experts, will provide Greenpoint with living and growing infrastructure to support native New York City wildlife and educational
programming focused on sustainable conservation practices and wildlife protection. The 520 Kingsland Avenue warehouse is owned and operated by Broadway Stages. The roof sits directly adjacent to the Newtown Creek and offers visitors an uninterrupted panorama of Manhattan across the East River, Queens and North Brooklyn. The three-year project will ultimately transform the warehouse roof into a native grass and wildflower meadow. The project will be built on several of Broadway Stages buildings as new sections of roof become available for development. In 2016 we celebrated the grand opening of the first 10,000 square feet of green roof. The space will offer project partners a public venue to highlight environmental sustainability in Greenpoint.
