So, a correction is in order on my post of November 16th of the find by Brian Palmer. Further research and discussion with Brian reveals this thank you note was related to a large celebration in Susquehanna County that year, that celebrated the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution. Below is the reference to the very thorough report of this celebration, which in itself was a massive endeavor even by today's standards. WOW! A great find for researchers at our Brooklyn Historical Society archives.

Brian Palmer made a unique find on E-bay and donated this letter from 1887 to a recipient in Brooklyn. It appears to have some relationship to a 100th anniversary celebration of Brooklyn in 1887. Our 200th was celebrated in 1987 and the Brooklyn Historical Society was founded in that year as well. Nice piece to add to our archives.

Very successful Heritage Trail event in October of this year, and we saw two trains at the BHS site during this event. Over a dozen Susquehanna County Historical Societies and heritage sites participated. Do this again next year. Thank you Susquehanna County Historical Society and Susquehanna County Promotion and Tourism Agency for supporting this inaugural event .

Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust in cooperation with the Brooklyn Historical Society continues as an Official Location for the 2023 National
Wreaths Across America Day

Columbia Falls, MAINE, and Brooklyn Township, PA, December 16, 2023 — National nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA) announced today that the Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust (DFCLT) Cemetery in Brooklyn Township, Pennsylvania has once again joined in the mission to Remember, Honor, Teach, as an official location for 2023. This is the Second year that the DFCLT Cemetery has participated in this national program.

Wreaths Across America started as a simple gesture of thanks that has grown into a national, yearlong movement of resolute volunteers and communities coming together to not only remember the nation’s fallen and honor their service, but to teach the next generation about the value of freedom. This year, there are more than 3,700 participating locations that placed veterans’ wreaths on National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 – with more than two million volunteers coming together.

This year the Brooklyn Pennsylvania Historical Society placed four Veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of all the local heroes laid to rest there, to ensure that the individuals who served to protect the freedoms of our country never be forgotten and to bring the community together in patriotic commemoration.

“We are forever grateful for the thousands of supporters who dedicate their time, energy and resources to fulfilling our mission all year long,” said Karen Worcester, executive director, Wreaths Across America. “These individuals and their communities know the value of remembering the fallen, honoring those who currently serve and teaching the next generation about the sacrifices made for our freedom every day, and because of their continued support, Wreaths Across America continues to grow and touch new people each year.”
