The Marine Park Young Adults Association is an entirely grassroots not-for-profit for young adults ages 18-35 in southern Brooklyn that emphasizes community service and meaningful connections.

The Marine Park Young Adults Association is proud to once again support Community Heartbeat Foundation with our Back to School Drive, helping provide essential school supplies to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence in southern Brooklyn. Join us on Saturday, August 29 from 11 AM to 3 PM at Marine Park Coffee, 3411 Avenue S, Brooklyn. We are collecting new backpacks, pens, pencils, erasers, folders, notebooks, pencil cases, crayons, sharpeners, scissors, and rulers. Anyone in the community is welcome to donate, and as a thank you, anyone who donates three or more items will receive a free cup of coffee or tea!

We have had the opportunity to work with Community Heartbeat on previous community initiatives, and we truly value our continued partnership and the opportunity to support their work serving people in our local community. Through efforts like this drive, we hope to bring neighbors together and make sure those going through difficult circumstances have access to the resources they need as the new school year begins. Join the Marine Park Young Adults Association on Friday, August 28 for another Karaoke & Game Night at Marine Park Coffee. Doors open at 6 PM, and young adults ages 18-35 are welcome to join us for a fun and relaxed evening of karaoke, games, and meeting new people from the community. Whether you want to sing, play some games, or simply hang out and socialize, everyone is welcome to participate at their own pace. Admission is $5, with water and soda included.

A special thank you to our Co-Treasurer Abdur Rehman for designing this great flyer and continuing to contribute his time and creativity to the organization. We’re also grateful to our leadership team, volunteers, and Marine Park Coffee for helping us continue to provide affordable and welcoming social events for young adults in southern Brooklyn. Events like these are at the heart of our mission of creating opportunities for young adults to make friends, build connections, and become more involved in their local community.

This past Saturday, August 15, Marine Park Young Adults Association hosted another successful open community event with our entirely free screening of Superman! We welcomed around 20 community members throughout the evening and had a free concession stand with chips, cookies, water, and soda for our guests to enjoy. Just as we did with our free community movie night at the Lott House last August, we believe in creating opportunities for neighbors to come together without cost being a barrier. Thank you to everyone who attended and especially everyone who stayed with us throughout the movie!

We did experience some audio issues with our Bluetooth setup, so our President and Co-Founder, Sam, went home to grab a cable and returned to get everything working properly. We learn as we go and learn from our mistakes so we can make each event better than the last. A special thank you to Nick, owner of Marine Park Coffee, for once again allowing us to use the space and for his continued support of our organization and community programming. Moving forward, we plan to continue expanding our open community programming alongside our young adult-focused events, creating more free and accessible opportunities for people throughout the neighborhood to connect, have fun, and build community.

The Marine Park Young Adults Association, formally incorporated as Marine Park Young Adults Association Inc. since May 2025, has officially raised enough to cover our IRS filing fees and is currently pending 501(c)(4) tax-exempt status! We started as a small grassroots social club for young adults, originally considering 501(c)(7) status, but especially over the past year we have grown into a broader social welfare organization. Young adults remain at the heart of our mission through movie and game nights, karaoke, and trivia, while many of our events are now open to everyone, including free movie nights, concerts, NYC Parks street tree care, and our Marine Park Cleanup Club.

A huge part of our growth has been possible because of Nick, owner of Marine Park Coffee, who does so much for the community. Nick lets us use the space for our events, hosts collection boxes supporting veterans and other causes, and welcomes local craft vendors to set up during business hours. His support has helped us reach the point where our events draw great turnouts and provide a unique space for young adults and the wider community to connect. This Saturday, we’ll return for another completely free, all-ages movie night featuring Superman. Thank you to Nick, our members, volunteers, donors, and community partners for helping our grassroots organization continue to grow!

The Marine Park Young Adults Association is excited to announce that we will be hosting Marine Park Street Tree Care Day Part III as part of our Street Tree Stewardship Program in partnership with the NYC Parks Department. This event will utilize the TreeLC Truck, a specialized NYC Parks Stewardship vehicle that provides mulch, tools, supplies, and on-site guidance to trained Super Steward Care Captains who organize and lead community street tree care events. The truck helps volunteers clean tree beds, cultivate soil, and properly mulch street trees to improve the health of New York City’s urban forest while supporting grassroots environmental stewardship.

If there are streets or blocks in Marine Park where you’ve noticed street trees that could use some attention this fall, let us know in the comments! We’ll use your suggestions as we plan this next stewardship day and continue working together to make our neighborhood greener, healthier, and more beautiful for everyone.

Exciting news! The Marine Park Young Adults Association has officially filed our paperwork to become a federally recognized 501(c)(4) social welfare nonprofit organization. This is our biggest milestone since incorporating with New York State as a nonprofit organization in May 2025 and represents an important step in the long-term growth of our entirely grassroots organization. Federal recognition will help us continue expanding our impact, strengthening our credibility, and serving the Marine Park and southern Brooklyn community for years to come. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of our members, volunteers, donors, and everyone who has believed in our mission from the very beginning.

We’re also proud of the leadership team helping guide MPYAA into this next chapter. Our Board consists of Sam Daniele as President, Taylor Fischer as Vice President, Danielle Levine as Secretary, Vincent Sinatra and Abdur Rehman Butt as Treasurers, and Jenna Colleran as Chief of Staff. Thank you to Taylor and Danielle for their hard work and support during our most recent event as we completed this filing. We’re excited for what’s ahead and look forward to continuing to build something meaningful for our community together.
