Haitian American Lawyers Association - New York Ansamn, together, we hope to influence the legal and judicial system to address the needs and interests of our community. Please join us in these efforts.

The Haitian American Lawyers Association of New York is a non-profit professional organization founded to promote and encourage participation by Haitian Americans and other ethnic minorities in the judicial and legal system. Though the organization primarily has a legal base, we hope to involve all those who either care about, are affected by, or are interested in issues that pertain to Haitian Am

ericans and the Haitian diaspora. We will celebrate and share our culture with members of the legal community. Through collaborations and public service, we aim to positively impact the lives of our fellow brothers and sisters in the US and abroad.

🎉 13 YEARS OF HALANY! 🇭🇹⚖️🇺🇸

On August 14, 2013, the Haitian American Lawyers Association of New York officially launched with a vision to bring Haitian American attorneys together, strengthen our collective voice, serve our community, and create opportunities for the next generation.

Today, August 14, 2026, we celebrate 13 years of HALANY!

From that first launch event in Brooklyn to the organization we are today, HALANY has continued to grow through the dedication of our founders, past presidents, board members, members, supporters, community partners, and friends.

For 13 years, we have advocated, mentored, served, celebrated Haitian excellence, supported law students and young attorneys, and stood together when our community needed us most.

As we look back at this original 2013 flyer, we are reminded that every organization starts with a vision and a group of people willing to build it.

13 years later, we are still building. Still serving. Still advocating. Still standing together.

It’s HALANY’s honor to celebrate the elevation of the Honorable Raymond J. Lohier, Jr. to Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, effective July 1, 2026.

Judge Lohier has served on the Second Circuit since his appointment by President Obama in 2010, and is the first Haitian-American to serve as an Article III federal judge and be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Before joining the bench, he was a distinguished Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he helped prosecute major securities fraud and Ponzi scheme cases, including work on the Madoff investigation.
