We’re proud to highlight that Heels, a 30-minute short film by Kevin Joel Rosa, is having a special theatrical run at The Tank this month. 🎬

✨Kevin ( )recently workshopped the script for the feature-length version of Heels in Blended City’s Reading Table series. The film also stars Richard Perez, Jr. ( ) a past Blended City featured artist and performer at our 2025 Glitter Ball.😍

Say hello to September’s Featured Artist Mekhai Lee! 👋
Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, Mekhai is a Proud graduate of the Drama program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he performed in/directed many productions including The Brothers Size and Angels in America. Before graduating in 2018, Mekhai joined the First National Touring Production of the acclaimed The Color Purple Revival featuring Cynthia Erivo (as Grady/Harpo u/s) and subsequently moved to New York City, having since performed in multiple professional productions. During the 2020 pandemic, Mekhai as a first time film director co-created, wrote & directed an original web-series entitled For the Boys to much acclaim. He is a member of the Half-Initiative Director Program and is the 2022 Director’s Fellow on HBO’s Succession. Mekhai also wrote and directed an original short film called “Them That’s Not” which premiered at Newfest Film Festival ‘25 as part of Concord Originals and Newfest’s Sound and Scene Program, and has since screened at numerous Film Festivals including Chicago International Film Festival and Big Bear International Film Festival. He is also one of six directing recipients of the NAACP 2025 Cinematic Shorts Competition, which took place at the 2025 NAACP National Convention. Mekhai participated as Director of new play “NHeaven” by up and coming playwright Keyon Monte. As a director, Mekhai’s shooting style reflects some of his inspirations, including but not limited to Spike Lee, Hiro Murai, Barry Jenkins and Pedro Almodóvar. Mekhai’s purpose as an artist is to highlight the stories too often omitted in mainstream media. He is repped by Gersh Agency and Insight Management. Using his unique voice and personal experience, Mekhai is moved to tell stories that show the depth of humanity, and how our connection to the people around us help us further connect to ourselves. Mekhai is passionate about directing in both the film and theatrical mediums.

Vik Lizardo, also known as Vik in the Mix, is a versatile professional currently based in Baltimore, MD. She is a live sound audio engineer, podcaster, DJ, and creative designer with a rich background in the creative industry. In 2019, Vik founded Lizard Vision Production, a creative company that has enabled her to build a network of artists and entrepreneurs, collaborating on various artistic projects. Her career has expanded over the years, and she has worked with notable organizations such as The Baltimore Orioles, Redbull, Artscape, the Baltimore Filmmakers Collective, Yelp, and many others.
Vik’s latest endeavor is the online launch of her self-titled podcast, Vik in the Mix. The podcast highlights the stories of artists, entrepreneurs, and other creative individuals, offering insights into their journeys and inspirations.
