Community Board 6 Passes 20 MPH Resolution

Last night the full CB6 board voted to recommend “a district-wide 20 MPH slow zone on all applicable streets, and adjust signal timing to reflect the new limit, with camera enforcement.”

Under Sammy’s Law, DOT the ability to lower speed limits to 20 MPH with only community board approval.

“This small change will save lives, as long as it is enforced with speed cameras and paired with adjustments in signal timing,” CB6 Transportation Chair Tony Melone said. “We have the tools, we just need to use them before we lose another neighbor to traffic violence.”

What happens now? According to Streetsblog. the mayor and City Council are playing “hot potato” on who implements the new speed limits.
