Unions work ! They fight to no end to avoid us. Corporations want you to not have a voice at work. They want at will employees. Joining a union changes that !

What’s the saying? If unions weren’t effective, corporations wouldn’t spend so much money trying to bust them.

US employers spend more than $1.5bn a year on labor union opposition efforts, according to a report published on Wednesday by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI).

Employers spent company money hiring consultants and law firms specializing in union avoidance and on legal counsel, representation, and litigation services during union elections and organizing campaigns.

CWA Local 1109 Brothers and Sisters,

Please join me in welcoming the newest members of CWA Local 1109 — the Mastech employees in Suffolk County — who today showed the courage to fight for a better workplace and a stronger future for themselves and their families.

For the last several months our team — Organizer Ena Pearce, Executive Board member Steve Moser, and Business Agent Mike Sabatino — spent countless hours meeting, calling, guiding, and preparing this group through the organizing and election process. They helped these workers overcome the company’s efforts to derail the campaign and the message that the company could decide what’s best for their families. Those workers stood up, followed the advice and guidance of the campaign leaders, and did everything right.

The results are clear: Mastech (Suffolk) employees overwhelmingly voted yes to form their union today. This is not only a victory at Mastech but a win for all telecom workers throughout our footprint. We rise and fall together as one — our solidarity is our strength. The worker united can never be defeated.

Local 1109 is committed to organizing workers from every sector, giving them the voice they need and the respect they deserve as the working men and women of this country. I am deeply grateful for the sacrifice and dedication of everyone who helped achieve this victory — the 1109 staff, our committee members, and the brave workers at Mastech who did so much to make this possible. This was a team effort.

1109 continues to be a leader and an aggressive organization building our union. This is our second union election victory in the past several months, and our focus remains the same: continue aggressive organizing, follow every lead, build our political power, and provide the best representation possible for all members.

I am very proud of where we are and excited for where we are going as a local. Get involved — our strength comes from active members.

In solidarity,

Joseph A. Iorio, Jr.
President, CWA Local 1109

🚨3,500 WORKERS WALK OUT AS BLET TEAMSTERS, UNION COALITION LAUNCH LIRR STRIKE🚨

Teamsters with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) at the Long Island Rail Road have launched a strike alongside their bargaining coalition of 3,500 workers from five unions.

The LIRR is the busiest commuter railroad in America, with 300,000 daily passengers. This is the first strike at the carrier in 32 years.

The Teamsters represent over 500 locomotive engineers at the railroad. They have gone three years without raises throughout the process of bargaining a new contract.

Teamsters locomotive engineers will stay on strike until they get the fair contract they deserve.

AMAZON TEAMSTERS BECOME FIRST UNION TO WIN BARGAINING ORDER AGAINST E-COMMERCE GIANT

In a historic decision, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has ruled that Amazon illegally refused to recognize the Staten Island-based Amazon Labor Union-International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1 (ALU-IBT 1) and ordered it to begin negotiations with the Teamsters.

Over 5,000 warehouse workers at the JFK8 facility in Staten Island formed their union on April 1, 2022. In June 2024, they officially affiliated with the Teamsters Union, which officially chartered ALU-IBT Local 1. Over the past four years, NLRB has repeatedly found that Amazon has illegally and willfully ignored the union’s legitimacy while attempting to coerce JFK8 Teamsters into ending their organizing efforts.

"Four years ago, Amazon workers at JFK8 won an NLRB election. Now, on this monumental anniversary, they have become the first group ever to force the company to recognize their union, and they did so as Teamsters,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “This fight is far from over but this ruling from the NLRB is an historic victory for Amazon Teamsters nationwide and a testament to worker power.”
