Dominicans—it’s time we get clear on what the impact of anti-Haitianism and antiblackness is on our lives 🤦🏽♀️
It means accepting blatant human rights abuses, taking away accountability from our governments and shifting the blame to our community members. It means holding national pride at a higher importance than actual social change (better access to and quality of education, more affordable cities, increased women’s bodily autonomy, etc)…🤧
Many Dominicans prefer a politician that panders to their antihaitian sentiment, rather than one who cares to address their material conditions and quality of life.
When we reject antiblackness and antihaitianism, we reject politicians and governments that say “no, we can’t better your life because of this group of people we deem to be a threat”. The real threat is the elite filling their pockets with more and more money, while they see the most vulnerable suffer. Politicians and governments are here to serve the people. This goes for back on the island, and here in the states. Let’s remember that.
