Ryan first joined Camping to Connect as a high school participant from Brooklyn, NY. Eight years later, he returned, not as a camper, but as a facilitator and mentor for the next generation.
That’s the heart of this work.
Camping to Connect is about creating spaces where young men of color can feel seen, challenged, supported, and connected to something bigger than themselves. It’s about long-term mentorship, brotherhood, emotional growth, and helping young people move from isolation to belonging.
In a time when loneliness, disconnection, and hopelessness are rising among young men, especially young men of color, community is essential.
Ryan’s story is proof of what becomes possible when someone is given consistent support, meaningful relationships, and space to grow.
