Association for Study of Women and Mythology ASWM is an international organization of scholars and artists whose work deals with the intersection of women and mythology.

We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Welcome to ASWM, a nonprofit organization. Our goal is to support the work of those whose scholarly/creative endeavors explore or elucidate aspects of the sacred feminine, women and mythology. Our members may take advantage of member services on line and in person, such as

mentoring for graduate students
discussion forums
conference internships for students

resources for publishing, research, and teaching


Because of our commitment to providing information to the public, these projects and programs are available to everyone:

At our biennial conference we grant the Demeter Award for Leadership in Women's Spirituality, Winners include Margot Adler, Charlene Spretnak, Jean Shinoda Bolen, Elinor Gadon, and Lucia Chiavola Birnbaum. In addition, ASWM confers awards in the areas of Best Dissertation, Best Nonfiction Book, Excellence in the Arts, and Special Contributions to Women's History.

Saw this wonderful documentary on Medusa on Kickstarter. It’s 90 minutes and looks at the mythological, cultural, and modern aspects of Medusa. I thought it might be appreciated by fellow folks that want to see our women as fully fledged people and not just some stop on a hero’s quest.

In a world too quick to decapitate and fearful of turning to stone, we dare to meet Medusa's gaze.
