Yesterday, our Beautiful Ventures Network co-hosted (along with luminary organizations , , and more) the Atlanta screening of - a documentary the brainchild of Dr. , was produced and directed by , and chronicles her journey as a Black woman navigating the hostile upper echelon of white philanthropy to centering her wellness and thriving despite the anitblackness and mysognoir that was affecting her health and peace@of mind. It is a riveting, urgent love letter to Black women and we were honored to celebrate its Atlanta debut at the gorgeous center! 🎬

The screening was followed by a Black women centered real-talk panel discussion moderated by neichelleg, with Dr. Redwood (EP of the film), pleasure educator and coach Tosh Patterson and licensed clinical social worker Dominique Harmon . 🔥🔥🔥

It was a fabulous Futures of Repair Opening Party, y’all!!! 🎉🎉🎉

The BV Network congratulates our members and the entire team for an aftofuturistically fabulous opening night! 🚀🖤🌻🎨☀️

It was so good to reúne with BV Network members and to meet new friends and fellow dreamers! We could not be more proud! It’s showing until March so you have time to check it out!

Excerpt from the event description:

🎨Even as we consider our shared purpose in repairing and healing from the harms caused by colonialism, slavery, white supremacy, and genocide and the systems that have been constructed on top of them..we are invited to consider repair as a fractal, repair as a way of being, as a practice, as an act of devotion and creativity, as a sacred responsibility, as something we embody in every part of our lives…

In this collaborative dream space, Intelligent Mischief travels with six artists to explore the futures made possible by Reparations. Looking through the lens of six integral relationships that have been fractured by the harms of colonialism, slavery and white supremacy, and the desires of 120 people participating in six world building sessions, the experience invites you engage with artifacts from the Futures of Repair, to deeply contemplate and embody the practices of repair. 🎨

Congratulations also to all of the amazing artists whose creations took us to a future time and place of healing, freedom, joy, play and love:

Curators: Intelligent Mischief & Mia Imani Harrison

Artists: Alisha B. Wormsley - American Artist - Ari Melenciano - Intelligent Mischief - Mia Imani Harrison - Nu Goteh - Rory Scott - Terrence Nance

Creative Producer: Genel Ambrose

Spatial Designer: Mayola Tikaka

It’s here yall.

As per our comrades at the Movement for Black Lives ,

is a visionary, forward-looking spin on celebrations of Blackness in February; a time to consider and celebrate our radical Black history and to dream and imagine a world in which all Black people are free.

This Black Futures Month, we celebrate the Future of Black Love and exchange love notes that articulate manifestations of love beyond romance, binaries, and capitalism and into the ever-expansive realms of justice and liberation.

Each February, we take stock of the cumulative efforts undertaken by Black people to erect a liberatory future where we are self-determined and loved.

Our Beautiful Ventures Network leans into this afrofuturist call to education, affirmation and celebration - in February, and erryday.

Black History Month is not now, nor shall ever be…”on pause”.

In fact, let’s run back some of the history of its founder, Dr. Carter G. Woodson:

Carter G. Woodson was born in 1875 to illiterate parents who were former slaves. His schooling was erratic. He helped out on the family farm when he was a young boy and as a teen worked in the coal mines of West Virginia to help support his father’s meager income. Hungry for education, he was largely self-taught and had mastered common school subjects by the age of 17. Entering high school at the age of 20, Woodson completed his diploma in less than two years.

He worked as a teacher and a school principal before obtaining a bachelor’s degree in literature from Berea College in Kentucky. He then went on to earn a master’s degree from the University of Chicago, and became the second Black American, after W.E.B. Du Bois, to obtain a Ph.D. degree from Harvard University. He joined the faculty of Howard University, eventually serving as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

After being barred from attending American Historical Association conferences despite being a dues-paying member, Woodson believed that the white-dominated historical profession had little interest in Black history. He saw African-American contributions “overlooked, ignored, and even suppressed by the writers of history textbooks and the teachers who use them.”

In 1926, he launched Negro History Week in the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. It’s been celebrated as month of commemoration every year since 1976. The concept was later expanded into Black History Month. He fervently believed that Black people should be proud of their heritage and all Americans should understand the largely overlooked achievements of Black Americans. (~adapted from ’s website).

Beautiful Ventures celebrates and centers Black, narrative entrepreneurs like Dr. Carter G. Woodson. We exist ensure the legacies of storytellers in the tradition of Woodson whose works affirm the humanity of all Black people - 24/7/365.

Beautiful Ventures is about that Kwanzaa vibe 24/7/365.

We strive to live out the Nguzo Saba (Seven Principles ) in our community making, in our storytelling and programming.. 🖤

As a movement of storytellers and story lovers, we are always thinking about how we can create and elevate narratives that affirm , inspire and liberate our people.

For this reason, Kwanzaa is our fave holiday!! We invite you to go all out and celebrate 🎉 —- reflecting on how we can all practice these Principles as individuals and in community:

✊🏾 unity (umoja),
✊🏾 self-determination (kujichagulia)
✊🏾 collective work and responsibility (ujima),
✊🏾 cooperative economics (ujamaa),
✊🏾 purpose (nia),
✊🏾 creativity (kuumba), and
✊🏾 faith (imani).

This is what will be on our minds and hearts these next 7 days and everyday thereafter.!

Harambee! Let’s all pull together! We got us! Always.

Happy Kwanzaa and despite the madness, make it a fabulous New Year as well!! 🌽♥️🍇🖤🍷💚✊🏾💥

✨ Tomorrow is the day! ✨

Our gatherings aren’t just about coming together—they’re about creating a space where Black creativity is heard, seen, and celebrated. Here, we strengthen our voices, connect in community, and uplift one another’s work. 💪🏾✨

We’re so excited to gather with our Beautiful Ventures Network for a powerful evening of connection, creativity, and community. 🌍🖤

As part of our Network Gathering, we’ll feature a Show & Tell segment where BV members share their incredible work. Today, we’re spotlighting two amazing presenters who will be sharing tomorrow:

🎼Collin Cadet (.cadet) will be sharing an original song that delves into themes of letting go, releasing resistance, and embracing inner wealth.
🎥 Elizabeth Hobbs () will be sharing her movie musical project set in a colorfully dystopian 1970s Detroit. She’s looking to fill a couple of roles on this project, so definitely tune in to hear more!

A couple other members will be sharing their work as well, so please come show your support for our talented friends.

🗓️ When: Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 19th, 5 PM PST / 8 PM EST
📍 Where: Virtual Gathering (RSVP via the link in bio or on our website)
