Arab American Association of New York Our mission is to support & empower the Arab American and Arab immigrant community in NYC.

In early 2001, a group of engaged Arab community leaders envisioned a nonprofit social services agency to meet the vast social and economic needs of New York's growing Arab immigrant population. In the wake of the September 11th attacks, these community leaders witnessed the heightened sense of fear and the acts of discrimination their community confronted. The Arab community leaders redoubled the

ir efforts and opened AAANY as a non-profit in December 2001, providing invaluable social services and empowering and defending New York's Arab community. Today AAANY provides:

Social Services
-Free legal immigration services (the first Monday of every month, every Tuesday 11-1, every Wednesday 3-6)
-Bilingual caseworker assistance
-Employment and resume assistance
-Assistance in accessing health care and public benefits

Education
-ESL classes
-Citizenship classes
-GED preparation classes

Youth Programs
-SAT classes
-After school tutoring
-Kitaab summer camp
-Student run journalism group
-Girls' empowerment group

AAANY congratulates our Chief Executive Officer Marwa Janini on being recognized as an awardee in Arab America Foundation’s 40 under 40🎊👏🏻

Marwa Janini is a Palestinian-American
Muslim Organizer and the Executive Director of the Arab American Association of New York
(AAANY), where she leads community-driven advocacy for immigrant and Arab communities across the city. She holds a Master’s Degree in Middle Eastern Studies from The CUNY Graduate Center. Her work studying the Palestinian diaspora in Latin America and, more broadly, the broader discourse between Latin America and the Arab
world has been published and has garnered multiple accolades.

As Executive Director, Marwa has ensured that AAANY has stood at the forefront of community-based efforts to make New York City a safe and inclusive space for everyone by partnering with organizations serving New Yorkers from all walks of life, especially those at the heart of the City’s Arab, South Asian and Muslim communities, to combat anti-Asian, anti-Arab, anti-Palestinian and Islamophobic rhetoric and violence in the City.

Marwa has been recognized as #12 in the inaugural Power of Diversity: Middle Eastern North African (MENA) 50, a list that highlights MENA leaders making a difference across NY. A proud New Yorker with roots in Beit Hanina, Palestine, and Managua, Nicaragua, Marwa is also a mother of three and has served on Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s transition team on immigrant justice and as an advisor to prior city administrations.

Congratulations to our amazing staff member, Ala Mohamed, on successfully completing the Literacy & Justice Leadership Institute! 🎉👏

Over the past 10 months, Ala joined a cohort of adult education leaders from community-based programs across New York City, participating in seminars, collaborative learning, and developing an Action Project focused on advancing literacy for justice in our communities.

AAANY joined advocates, community leaders, and partners at City Hall to support increased investment in the Rapid Immigration Support and Empowerment (RISE) Initiative.

We are advocating for a $3.5 million investment in the RISE Initiative to ensure the continuation of critical immigration services, legal support, and community resources for immigrant New Yorkers.

We are proud to stand alongside our partners in calling for the funding and support our communities need and deserve. Together, we are working to build a more equitable and welcoming city for all.
