Arlekino Theater Troupe

Arlekino Theater Troupe Let your tot put on a show for you!

Arlekino Theater was founded by Jane Tuv, a Ukrainian-born journalist and editor, with a passion for child education and the arts. Jane developed this program to instill an appreciation for Jewish heritage and the arts in young children whose parent(s) have emigrated from the FSU. With this program, Jane hopes to promote Russian language development and connect different generations of the Russian

-Jewish community. The program is structured in such a way so that children develop their social and interpersonal skills, as well as cognitive and motor skills.

"...we need to be extra careful with the amount and timing of academic agendas created for children; with how much we emphasize product—what kids have accomplished at school—versus process—who they are becoming and what they feel in their explorations."

We had a music lesson with our beloved Zisl Slepovitch! A million thanks to our choreographer, Valeriya Kogut, for leading dance as Zisl played various Klezmer arrangements of popular children's songs! Our Arlekinchiki learned a lot about the Yiddish language and Yiddish music. More to come!

On Erev Rosh Hashana, I reflect once again on the year that passed and vividly imagine the year that lies ahead. This past weekend, after facilitating children's workshops at the extraordinary Mishpucha camping retreat, I became present to three things that drive my passion---that push me at full speed and allow me to forget my exhaustion, my commitments, the many heavy anchors. These three things also award me the gift of feeling deeply and at the same time offer comfort, reassurance, and peace. I thrive--no, I soar--because of children's spirit, their laughter, and their creative freedom. And I break and sore when either is missing. This year, I wish all of you the sweet freedom to play as you wish...to liberate your spirit and to laugh with children. I wish you to allow yourselves to feel joy through every crevice of your body, and to be thankful that you can recognize such moments. Most of all, I wish you all freedom to create, and to rediscover yourselves through your creativity.

L'Shana Tova!
