🌊Prevention doesn't look dramatic. Donate today March 17 until March 20, to help create more of these moments.

When people imagine saving a life, they picture a dramatic rescue.

A whistle blowing.
A lifeguard diving into the water.
A moment of panic.

And sometimes, saving a life does look like that.

But many lives are saved long before a rescue is ever needed.

It looks like a child stepping slowly into the water for the first time with an instructor nearby.
It looks like an instructor gently supporting the back of a child’s head as they learn to float.
It looks like a small kick… and a small smile.

đź’›For a limited time through the Little by Little campaign, donations of up to $50 are matched by 50% thanks to our friends at

Because prevention adds up—little by little—until entire communities are safer. Building prevention one skill at a time can make a small gift significant.

Matching funds are limited, so please consider making your gift today.

🌳 Putting the “Rec” Back in Parks & Recreation🌳

Movement, play, and belonging are foundational — not optional — for healthy, equitable communities.

This month the Center for an Urban Future released a report highlighting the current state of Parks and Recreation in NYC.

Founder Kaitlin Krause was feaured on page 10, speaking about the benefits of recreational spaces in the city:

“Access to recreation centers can play a meaningful role in addressing the mental health crisis, reducing crime and gun violence, and improving physical health. However, the impact extends beyond getting a young person off the street,” Krause says. “It is about creating a broader culture of self-care that supports entire families. These outcomes are only possible when access exists, and access is not only about affordability but also about whether the amenity exists at all. Recreation centers, particularly in the communities we serve, are vital assets that significantly enrich quality of life. [Right now], these facilities are not broadly accessible across New York City.”

🏊‍♀️ Join us in welcoming Itzy González to our team as a Support Representative (for our participants & providers).

Born and raised in Mexico, Itzy began swimming at age two and continued through college as an NCAA Division I athlete, serving as team captain for three years. Swimming shaped her discipline, resilience, and taught her the value of consistency, shaping how she approaches challenges both in and out of the pool.

Itzy was part of Rising Tide's Swim Corps program in 2025 (as a Cohort Leader), an experience she found both meaningful and rewarding. Itzy is motivated to contribute to mission-driven initiatives that use data, education, and access to create positive and lasting impact, particularly in education, public health, and youth development.

👏 Welcome Itzy! 👏

“It’s the best feeling ever.”

Swim Corps participants begin by learning how to swim. From there, the program offers water-based experiences that help deepen their connection to the water and foster joy, confidence, and possibility.

Surfing is one component of Swim Corps, supported by volunteers who safely guide participants in the ocean. We are grateful to and the incredible volunteers who make our surf experience possible.

Access the water. Change what you thought was possible.

“It’s not a job. It’s a fundamental experience.”

Swim Corps is more than a summer job. It is a paid, hands-on opportunity that helps young people safely access the water, build confidence, and develop life-saving skills.

Water safety and drowning prevention are core elements of the program, alongside personal growth, well-being, professional development and exploration of pathways into local blue economy careers.

No prior swim experience is required. Participants are supported in learning to swim and building skills in a safe, supportive environment.

Swim Corps provides everything participants need to fully take part, including meals, transportation stipends, technology and all required equipment and gear, from uniforms and swimwear to goggles, surfboards, and laptops.

The window to join Swim Corps this summer is OPEN.
Eligible applicants ages 16–24 must register through SYEP to be considered.

SYEP applications close at the end of February.
