Building comfort and confidence in the water. 💙

For the mom of Ta’Shiya, Zahmiya, and Zahmir, having access to swimming means giving her children the opportunity to become comfortable in the water and build their swimming skills.

“Allowing my kids the opportunity to fully feel comfortable in the water and become more familiar with the basics of swimming, such as floating, going under the water, and treading water.”

Team Member Spotlight: Mackenzie 💙

During our summer programming, we welcomed a young swimmer who had never experienced swimming before.

She was paired with Mackenzie, a four-year member of the RTE family who actually began her journey with us as a volunteer.

Mackenzie got to work, using RTE’s methodology to patiently build skills, confidence, and trust in the water.

And 45 minutes later… she was swimming.

It was one of those moments when you stop everything and celebrate.

But moments like this don’t happen by accident. They happen when an instructor knows how to connect, encourage, teach, and help a young person begin to believe: I can do this.

Mackenzie’s commitment to service has been at the heart of her RTE journey for four years. This summer, we were lucky to have her return and bring that experience, patience, and dedication to our Rockaway team.

One lesson. One new swimmer. One very proud instructor and team.

Way to go Mackenzie!

Team Member Spotlight: Lauren 💙

Lauren joined Rising Tide Effect as a volunteer this summer, supporting our programming at The Rockaway Hotel pool and we feel so fortunate that she chose to spend her summer with us.

From the beginning, Lauren has brought incredible kindness, patience, and care to every session. She was paired with Alessia, who started the summer feeling nervous about swimming and unsure in the water.

Session by session, we’ve watched Alessia expand her skills, grow more comfortable, and build confidence and Lauren has been right there beside her, encouraging her every step of the way.

Lauren goes above and beyond to make sure each participant feels supported, capable, and proud of what they’re accomplishing.

It’s people like Lauren who make the Rising Tide Effect experience so special. We’re so grateful to have Lauren on our team.

From starting her swim journey a month ago, to floating on her back, blowing bubbles underwater, and feeling confident in the water. 💙

For us, this is what access to the water and learning to swim can look like.

“My daughter Nylaiah loves the program. She’s very confident and comfortable learning how to swim. I watched her go from knowing nothing about swimming to floating on her back and making bubbles underwater. She’s so passionate about learning how to swim.”

Her mom also shared a special thank you for Swim Instructor Marisa:

“Marisa is so patient and passionate about teaching our children the techniques of swimming.”

We’re so proud of Nylaiah and grateful to her family for trusting Rising Tide Effect to be part of her journey.

One child at a time, we’re building comfort, confidence, and skills that will last a lifetime. 🌊

Water Rescue Demo Day is one of the most powerful reminders of why we do this work.

To the NYC Parks Lifeguards, FDNY, NYPD, and every first responder who gave their time, expertise, and heart—thank you.

You didn’t just demonstrate rescue techniques. You inspired the next generation, shared lifesaving knowledge, and gave our Swim Corps participants and the Rockaway community the opportunity to learn directly from the people who protect New Yorkers every day.

We’re deeply grateful for your partnership and for everything you do to keep our communities safe, both in and out of the water.

Thank you to FOX 5 NY for helping share this important story.

“Respect the Rip” is back on the MTA.

If you’ve been out and about this month, you may have seen it.

Our Respect the Rip: The 3 R’s campaign is traveling across the MTA along the routes that connect New Yorkers to our ocean beaches, with a focus on communities disproportionately impacted by drowning—because water safety belongs to everyone.

We want you to enjoy the beach this summer.
We want you to come home safely.

Congratulations to every young man who completed the month long swim intensive program from St. John’s.

Over the past month, these participants showed up with courage, determination, and a willingness to challenge themselves. Some entered the pool for the very first time. Others overcame deep fears of the water. Every one of them left stronger, more confident, and better equipped with lifesaving skills that will stay with them for years to come.

We’re especially proud that several participants have chosen to continue their journey by joining our Swim Corps program, taking the next step toward leadership, certification, and careers connected to the water.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible team—Ramsi, Julien, Linda, and Sharon—for your patience, dedication, and unwavering commitment throughout the month. The impact you’ve had on these young men extends far beyond the pool.

Congratulations to all of our participants. This is just the beginning. 🌊💙
