NIA Youth Center

NIA Youth Center Visit us Mon through Fri! As one youth organizer has said, "By taking part in this program I've grown as an individual. It's hands on experience with the world.

The Neighbors in Action (NIA) Youth Center is a place for Brooklyn's young people to become community leaders, receive free services to promote healing and achievement, and create media and arts for social change! I've learned how to self-sacrifice to put forth for the community. I don't think I can find a better place that exposes us to realities of the world and steps out with us. It is reaching out to the community and making it a part of our family." Melissa Scott, 16.

Our Story

At Neighbors in Action, youth are central to our work of building safer and healthier neighborhoods. The NIA Youth Center is a hub for youth-led social change through organizing, collective healing, creative design, and skill building in Central Brooklyn.

Youth Programs staff engage teens and young adults through school and community-based workshops, internships opportunities, and on-site programming during the school year and summer months. These initiatives include:

  • Youth Organizing to Save Our Streets (YO S.O.S.) which gathers young people who have been exposed to violence and who want to make social change, and trains them to become peer educators and community organizers in the movement to build safer, healthier neighborhoods.

  • Media Arts Internships which connect young adults with media making opportunities to foster self expression, community change, and transferable skills for the work world.
