Janair, a brilliant story told in Poetic Pulse about a Black domestic worker in Rio de Janeiro, as she confronts racial, gender, and class-based oppression. In a society that renders her invisible, Janair breaks through the walls of silence and marginalization to reclaim her voice, power, and identity.

The play is a deep exploration of societal invisibility, systemic injustice, and personal empowerment, weaving literary influences with contemporary experiences of race and labor. Thematically, it connects urgent global conversations on race, class, and gender, making visible a story often left untold.

A story as old as time, yet relevant and timely. Poignant and profound. Weaving the stories of Labor and What is deemed "Women's work," and who gets paid for caring for others, their homes and even their elders. Yes. The conversation continues.

Celebrated annually on April 3 since 1986, Haitian Women’s Movement Day honors the vital role of Haitian women in the overthrow of Jean-Claude Duvalier’s dictatorship and their continued fight for deep democracy, gender equality, and human rights.

At Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees, we work with women who have faced direct retaliation for their human rights organizing—many of whom were forced to flee their homes and seek refuge due to targeted violence and political persecution.

As Haitian women continue to bear the brunt of systemic violence—whether in Haiti, in transit while seeking refuge, or while adapting to life in new countries—we renew our commitment to the fight for dignity and human rights.

We honor the legacy of those who marched before us and pledge to continue paving the way for future generations.
