EMEDEX International has partnered with Brazilian emergency physicians and stakeholders since 2007 to promote training in emergency medicine, disaster preparedness planning, and systems development. Most recently, EMEDEX has joined with the Ministry of Health and the medical school of the Universidade Federal do Ceará in Sobral, Ceará to provide a faculty development course in emergency medicine. This group of faculty will then serve as the future leaders of curricular development in emergency medicine for the medical school, as well as for the establishment of an eventual residency training program in emergency medicine.

EMEDEX members have helped to establish the first volunteer-based ambulance corps in the country, and have overseen an ongoing pre-hospital service in St. Elizabeth parish, the first of its kind in the country. More than 170 community members have been trained in water rescue, CPR, first aid and spinal immobilization skills.
