Afro Free Culture Crowdsourcing Wikimedia (AfroCROWD) championing and increasing awareness of the Wikimedia and free knowledge, culture and software movements among potential editors of African Descent Afro Free Culture Crowdsourcing Wikimedia (AfroCROWD), is an initiative, seeking to increase awareness and engagement of people of African descent who partake in the Wikimedia and free knowledge and culture crowdsourcing movements in both content and editorship. This initiative was created because certain indicators signal non-proportionate participation of people of African descent (including but not limited to self-identified Haitian, Caribbean, West Indian, African, Black-American, African-American, Black, Biracial, Counter-Racist and Afro-Latino subgroups) in the Wikimedia movement.

Wikidata Edit-a-thon happening at Schomburg Center! Participants will create Wikidata items for the writers, works, organizations, and other entities referenced in the Schomburg Center's Transcription Centre Interviews with African Writers audio collection. The day will include an introduction and training on Wikidata basics.

All participants are welcome! We ask that attendees bring a laptop and set up a Wikidata account prior to the event.

When: Saturday, September 19, 11 AM
