The Academy Live is a six-week virtual screenwriting experience from The Professional Pen, a script consultancy founded by former TV executive Shannan E. Johnson. Built on the studio development model, this live, instructor-led program teaches writers how to approach their feature scripts with professional structure and process — from idea to outline. We’re back at it again! The BTFC is excited to once again partner with AspireTV to invite the BTFC community to submit their short films for consideration, to screen as a part of Season 8 of the Aspire TV Urban Indie Film Block Series!

The Deadline to submit for consideration via the form in our bio, is Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 11:59PM PST.

*Note, submitting doesn't guarantee selection. There will be an initial selection round via an internal BTFC committee that will vet the submissions and those selected will then be presented to AspireTV. Also, we are capping submissions received at 75, so get your submissions in sooner than later.

Once films are chosen, AspireTV's team will select which projects they'd like to invite to license and air on the channel.
