Join us on Friday, October 23, as acclaimed classical guitarist Kanahi Yamash*ta makes her New York City debut—and BKCGS presents its first concert at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music!
Born in Japan and now based in Germany, Kanahi has performed throughout Europe, Australia, and Asia. Her program will feature works by Mompou, Barrios, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, and Bach.

About the Artist
Born in Nagasaki, Japan, and based in Germany, Kanahi Yamash*ta is the recipient of the 2026 Idemitsu Music Award, one of Japan’s most prestigious honors across all musical disciplines. She has performed at Suntory Hall, Kioi Hall, and the Konzerthaus Berlin; appeared as a soloist with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and Japan Philharmonic Orchestra; and toured throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas.
The daughter of legendary guitarist Kazuhito Yamash*ta and acclaimed composer Keiko Fujiie, Kanahi began touring internationally as a member of the Yamash*ta Family Quintet. She later studied with Carlo Domeniconi, Thomas Müller-Pering, and Björn Colell, developing a distinctive artistic voice that combines technical mastery with profound expressive depth.
Her recordings include Selected Works VIII – Guitar Solo and Nocturnal Journey. She is also a semifinalist in the ARD International Music Competition, winner of the German Guitar Prize, and a D’Addario Artist.
