Meet the Maker: Brian Itzkin

Here is the next luthier on our list of luthiers featured at LuthierCon, Brian Itzkin. Brian built his first guitar at just thirteen before studying classical guitar making with Stephen Hill in Granada, Spain. Inspired by the great Spanish tradition, his instruments blend nineteenth-century aesthetics with a modern tonal palette, incorporating traditional techniques, double-top construction and thoughtfully sourced and reclaimed materials.

Meet the Maker: Lubos Naprstek

Here is the next luthier in our line up this year, Lubos Naprstek. Born in the Czech Republic, Lubos began repairing instruments at seventeen and has since earned international recognition for restoring historic guitars. His own instruments draw from traditional masterworks while incorporating modern innovations.

Meet the Maker: Garrett Lee

Here is another one of our featured luthiers at this year’s LuthierCon, Garrett Lee. A former research scientist, Garrett has been building classical guitars full-time since 2006. His instruments combine meticulous craftsmanship with innovative features, including double-top soundboards and adjustable-action necks. He also shares his expertise through his educational series, Lutherie Demystified.

We’re thrilled to announce that LuthierCon 2026 is coming to the Brooklyn Army Terminal on September 12, 2026! For those of you who have attended in years past, you know it’s a highlight of our year! Early-bird tickets are on sale now at the link in our bio.

LuthierCon is a one-of-a-kind gathering for the classical guitar community, bringing together world-class guitar makers, performers, collectors, students, and guitar enthusiasts for a full day of music, craftsmanship, and connection. Whether you’re searching for your next instrument, curious about your own, or simply want to hang out with a great group of people connected by the guitar, this event has something for you! 

This year’s featured luthiers include LuthierCon co-founders Matt Rubendall, Garrett Lee, Lubos Naprstek, and Brian Itzkin. We’re also excited to welcome Andy Danser, Zongzheng Guitar Studio, and RetroFret Vintage Guitars. Additional luthiers and exhibitors will be announced soon!

We’re also excited to welcome acclaimed guitarists Jack Hancher and Alberta Khoury as our featured guest artists. Both Jack and Alberta will demo guitars for the audience, talk through their experience with the instruments, answer your questions, and perform a selection of pieces.

This year, LuthierCon welcomes five exceptional luthiers, including Matt Rubendall. With nearly twenty years of experience, Matt builds French-polished guitars that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern refinement, producing instruments known for their balance, clarity, rich tonal color, and piano-like openness. We had a great time participating in the Guitar Teacher and Leadership summit presented by Austin Classical Guitar in partnership with Internal Creations at Carnegie Hall 🎸 Josh presented about the growth and development of the Brooklyn Classical Guitar Society and we valued our time connecting with and learning from our NYC colleagues and on the final day! Thanks to Matt Hinsley, Jahzeel Montes, and the Education team at for a fun and informative event and we hope to see you at the next one!

Come join us for our next Groupmuse concert with featuring Matt Kaplan Matt Kaplan and Mark Humburg. They’ve prepared a fun program of new and rarely works for guitar and cello and will end the program featuring Pierre Ferreyra-Mansilla for a two guitar and cello piece by Radamés Gnattali.

This is a free/suggested donation concert, BYOB, BYOsnacks, so come hang with us to kick off your summer with some good tunes and good company! Hope to see you there 🎸🎻
