🔥Fam! Come create with Brooklyn FAM this Sunday, 12-5pm, at the annual One Crown Heights Festival in Brower Park!

The festival program includes all kinds of awesome, FREE activities for all ages, like roller skating with NYC Roller Skating Pop-up , live performances by Tropicalfete and others, crafting with Jewish Children's Museum , free admission at Brooklyn Children's Museum, community conversations, and resources from local nonprofits.

🫶🏽Since Brooklyn FAM’s founding in 2021-2022, we’ve been honored to participate in the work of the One Crown Heights Coalition, which came into being after the 1991 race riots to foster understanding and connection across Crown Heights’ diverse communities, especially Black, Caribbean, and Jewish.

🎨This Sunday, Brooklyn FAM is hosting — count ‘em — FOUR art-making stations for all ages. Participate in one or all. 🌟This year’s theme is “Shine Your Light.” How do you shine your light in our world? How do you inspire others to shine theirs? Tell your own story, connect across communities and generations, and shine, shine, shine!

✨Paint One Crown Heights Coalition’s new Little Free Pantry with multidisciplinary Haitian-American artist Yolande Delius (pronounced “Yolund”) yolundstudios

✨Draw & write your story on a “Shine Your Light” all-natural scented candle, custom made for us by Paige's Candle Co. | Paige Graham, Founder

✨Decorate your own charity box (Tzedakah) to shine your light through giving and generosity

🌎 Let’s keep lighting up our world, dreaming big, and creating our shared futures together!

This Brooklyn FAM program is made possible by production support from our community volunteers and One Crown Heights Festival and funding from the City Parks Foundation, Partnerships for Parks, NYC Green Fund, Brooklyn Arts Council, Howard Gilman Foundation, and individuals donors like you.

Welcome to “Our Community,” a garden-themed 7-foot table runner created by folks of all ages and backgrounds with master quilter Sylvia Hernandez at New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC)‘s end-of-year Key to the City community resource event in Sunset Park on 44th St between 5th and 6th avenues on Saturday, June 13, 2026.

Community-empowering arts nonprofit Brooklyn FAM was honored to produce this participatory public art project on commission from NYIC’s Key to the City team, Caterina Cundari and Giselle Garcia.

From the artist, Sylvia Hernandez:

“I wanted to create a community garden to show that our flowers grow and go together no matter where we are from. The bees symbolize the industriousness of our immigrant communities.”

We stand , fam. Let’s continue to hold and protect safe space for all of us to tell and live our own stories, build bridges, grow networks of care, and strengthen our families and communities.

✨THANK YOU, Sunset Park, for coming out in record numbers (😮 more than 850!) to connect, share, support one another, and shine your light at New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC)‘s end-of-year Key to the City community resource event on Saturday, June 13th, on 44th St between 5th and 6th avenues.

🎉We are Brooklyn Arts Council grantees for the 4th year in a row. Thank you, Brooklyn Arts Council !

We love this work. If you’ve been to one of our programs, you know. We are ALL in, and this level of support from the Brooklyn Arts Council is a vote of trust and confidence in our impact that we don’t take lightly.

We are honored to receive three 2026 BAC grants:
🔥Creative Equations Fund for social justice & community impact
🔥Brooklyn Arts Fund
🔥Local Arts Support

With this funding, we continue to center marginalized voices, empower each of us to tell our own stories, and hold safe, welcoming space for all of our communities to share, connect, envision, and create our shared futures together across four generations.

Through the healing, transformative power of the arts, we foster empathy.

♥️ Empathy — heart connection — is the root of social change.

The Creative Equations Fund is underwritten by the Howard Gilman Foundation . The Brooklyn Arts Fund is a regrant of funding from the New York State Council on the Arts . Local Arts Support is a regrant of funding from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs .

🙏🏽 Thank you all for supporting the arts and its universal power to impact community for good.
