Hey folks, CHMA is having a Community Party Giveaway + Swap on Saturday, March 12 from 12:00-4:00pm at the Historic First Church on Kingston Ave & Park Place!

There will be:
Free packaged grocery parcels available for 150 families
Free food (including BBQ, doubles by Plenty Doubles, coffee & snacks by daughterny )
A kids’ bike raffle. Win 1 of 5 kids’ bikes!
Pickup basketball
An item swap! If you have items to give away/you’re looking to pick up items (like winter coats, books, socks, bike helmets, baby products, etc), feel free to participate! Bring anything you feel could provide great value to someone else!

Our friends Brooklyn Eviction Defense will also be there with info about their org and how it connects to the Crown Heights community!

Season's Greetings,

This Giving Tuesday please consider a donation to Crown Heights Mutual Aid. We are a completely volunteer-run network in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, that came together at the height of the pandemic last year to meet the emerging needs in our community. This means that 100% your donation will go directly to those in need.

Since spring 2020, CHMA spent over $550,000 providing assistance to the Crown Heights community. Here's just a short list of what we were able to accomplish with that funding:

Personalized grocery shopping for those facing food insecurity
Direct cash assistance to help with outstanding utility or medical bills
Regranting to other grassroots organizations in Crown Heights, such as Brooklyn Eviction Defense
Counseling and financial assistance for people facing domestic violence or housing insecurity
Legal assistance for those facing illegal evictions or other tenants’ rights issues
Help with scheduling vaccination appointments
Regular check-ins with neighbors who are isolated and need someone to talk to

As always, no donation is too small—if you are able to help but can only make a one-time contribution here using a credit or debit card, and the donation is tax-deductible.

As we look forward to 2022, CHMA is hoping to deepen the community ties we have created to build an enduring organization that can help address the intersectional problems of racialized income inequality, climate change, and food and housing insecurity. As we increasingly move away from emergency relief, we will be planning more events that link food provision with community organizing around tenants’ rights--a vital issue in the rapidly gentrifying Crown Heights neighborhood.
