Hello I'm JOY. The Essence of Jayce was created because of my tiny warrior name JAYCE. This all started in 2016 . Jayce was born prematurely at 25 weeks, weighing one pound, thirteen ounces. As a first time mom and a NICU mom life, as we know it will be unpredictable. After Jayce stay in the NICU life for us has changed. Jayce was diagnosis with Cerebral Palsy and Autism. I was determine to find all the help and resources he needed to strive, by jumping through hoops to get services and therapy sessions. I decided I was going to create a place just for him, plus everyone like him. A sense of belonging. That day, this dream Joined Abilities Young At Heart Creativity Excellence was born.
The Essence of Jayce mission statement is to improve physical activity, social interaction, and the quality of life for children with disabilities in the Bedford-Stuyvesant/ Ocean Hill Communities.
The vision is that every child has a chance to enjoy sports and other activities to identify each child needs and provides a safe inclusive supportive environment, therapeutic intervention services and community acceptance.
The primary purpose of our programs are many children in Brooklyn do not have access to any activity outside of limited PE during school hours and their therapy sessions. The situation is exacerbated for disabled children whose parent struggle to meet basic needs. Being physically active has a multitude of benefits: improving physical health, mental wellbeing, and encouraging social interaction and skills development from gross motor skills, cognition skills and throughout play.
