"{amdpc} curated an environment of 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺. That intention on the part of amdpc's artistic Director, x, manifested a 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 that gave 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘢."

𝐊𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐚 (𝐬𝐡𝐞/𝐡𝐞𝐫)⁣

Kayla Yee (she/her) practices with movement as a building block for communal health. Focusing on the intersection of art and social justice in dance and theatre, she is especially interested in the body’s wisdom as we navigate relationships. With a drama degree from NYU, Yee’s choreography incorporates trauma perspectives in its storytelling. Her piece “In 50 Years,” has presented in festivals including Move to Change, Nasty Women Unite, and NYCFringe as part of her personal climate change activism. Recent performance credits: “We’re All Immigrants” (Reaction Dance), “Voyeur: Windows of Toulouse-Lautrec” (Bated Breath Theatre Company), “Tanya’s Lit Clit” (Workshop, Experimental Bitch Presents), and “Check All That Apply” (Sarah Esser, WestFest Dance Festival). Kayla is grateful to be joining {amdpc} for this workshop! ⁣⁣

𝐉𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐡 (𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲/𝐡𝐞)⁣
⁣
Jonah Konah(they/he) is from southern Lenni-Lenape land, present day Trenton, New Jersey. They’ve received their dance training in a variety genres such as latin ballroom, classical ballet, modern forms. In college, he was introduced to the world post modern movement and transcultural movement practices. From this experience and his role as both yoga teacher and student, Jonah has begun to center his craft in more of how movement feels and connects us to our bodies rather than how it looks and exhausts us. He is grateful to further this exploration through learning of more accessible and wellness based movement practices and instruction with {amdpc}. ⁣

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐡 (𝐬𝐡𝐞/𝐡𝐞𝐫)⁣

Mariah Halkett (she/her) is a Brooklyn based dance artist originally from rural Maine. Currently she is excited to be working with {amdpc}. In addition, she teaches contemporary dance at P.S.142 in Manhattan. Her latest choreography was presented in the Acadia Dance Festival 2019, in Bar Harbor, ME, a festival produced by Nimbus Dance Works. In 2017 Mariah traveled to Bogotá, Columbia where she created and performed an evening length duet in collaboration with Jimmy Rangel and musician Justin Vahala. She had the pleasure of studying under Enzo Celli in Rome, Italy and performed with Vivo Ballet in 2016. ⁣

Since living in NYC, she has performed works ranging from contemporary ballet to postmodern with {amdpc}, Marie-Christine Giordano Dance, Dianna Warren, Masayo Tomito Ballet, Annelies Richmond, Yaya Sasaki, among others. Mariah graduated from Goucher College in with a B.A in Dance a concentration in Arts Administration and a minor in Art History. ⁣

""I’m a Hispanic, q***r, disabled dancer biased in NYC. I’m a child of Mexican immigrants, born and raised in Queens. I was always pushed to try every and any art form, whether it was dancing or playing an instrument. However that all changed in 2011 when I was diagnosed with a rare neuromuscular disorder called Myasthenia Gravis. This causes chronic weakness throughout my body, and I have to be on medication every four hours in order to function. It completely changed my outlook on life. ⁣
⁣
Now, I want to create awareness for people with disabilities that you can’t necessarily 'see.' I want everyone to have equal access to everything as they should. Especially the arts. Dance is for everyone.""⁣
