“STAY AWAY FROM DEBT TO KEEP THE MAN OUT YO POCKET”

11/26/2025

Minnesota’s H**p and CBD businesses just got blindsided by Congress. I’m not here for performative politics — I’m here to deliver results. In Congress, I’ll work across the aisle and introduce a bill to deregulate h**p and cannabis and give local business owners access to banking and credit. Minnesota entrepreneurs deserve support, not setbacks.

Black farmers make up only a small fraction of Minnesota’s agricultural community — but their impact is deep.

From Frog Tree Farm’s wreaths and healing retreats, to Angela Dawson’s 40-Acre Co-op reclaiming generational land, to Mahogany Farm’s youth education programs, these farms are redefining what it means to cultivate land. 🌾

They face unique barriers: land is expensive, capital is hard to access, and representation is limited. Yet they are building networks, pushing for state support, and reclaiming farming as a source of empowerment and healing.

As co-op founder Angela Dawson says, “We haven’t found all of them. There’s supposed to be 39 of us.”

Yesterday our President Angela Dawson or Executive Director Yaya Cochran and our Co-founder Julius Cochran had the honor of hosting a production team from Willie Nelson Farm Aid. The interview took place on Mahogany Farm one of our historically black farms in Minnesota.

Our team highlighted the journey of black farmers in Minnesota and told the story of how we are using our journeys, Black Farmers Association and our organizations to help pave a way for urban and greater Minnesota black farmers and connect youth back to the land.

A special Thank you to Angela and Forty Acre Co-op for bringing such an amazing opportunity to Mahogany Farm. Thank you Intentions for helping us to pave the way for youth in agriculture! Thank you Farm Aid. It’s an honor to be apart of such an amazing resource and saving grace to family farms in Minnesota and beyond.

From their website
“Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp organized the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on the land. Dave Matthews joined the Farm Aid Board of Directors in 2001, and Margo Price joined in 2021. Farm Aid has raised nearly $80 million to promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture. Farm Aid is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build a vibrant, family farm-centered system of agriculture in America.” Please visit www.farmaid.org for donating, resources and concert tickets.

We hope to see you all there with us to catch their interviews at the concert.

Kendall is amazing congratulations.

Through our partnership with Intentions we aim to connect Brooklyn Center, MN Community youth back to the land. We aim to spark their love for farming through hands on experiences right in their community and at Mahogany Farm.

She’s planting seeds and reaping rewards! 🌱

At just 10 years old, Kendall Rae Johnson, Georgia’s youngest certified farmer, has been awarded a full-ride scholarship to South Carolina State University. 🌾

found her love for farming at 3, started her own nonprofit, and even had a day named in her honor by the state. During a college tour with the USDA, her passion and knowledge wowed officials so much that they granted her the scholarship on the spot.

Did you know this was the history behind family reunions for Black Americans?

July is Black Family Month, and with it comes one of our most meaningful traditions: the family reunion. More than just matching T-shirts and cookouts, these gatherings are spaces where we honor our elders, pass down stories, and show younger generations what family truly means. Rooted in the aftermath of slavery, when newly freed people searched for lost relatives, reunions have always been about more than just coming together—they’re about healing and reclaiming legacy.

If your family has one planned, go. If not, maybe it’s time to start one. These moments aren’t just about remembering the past, they’re about building the future. ➡️ Here are a few families doing just that, and inspiring us along the way.
