Earlier this year, a miscommunication between managers led to David being terminated.

Through no fault of his own, he found himself off the schedule and without the income from Cub that he relies on. That was, until David’s steward connected him with our Member Action Center (MAC).

Read about how David won his job back, with backpay, and more wins in our Workplace Justice Report:

Happy Pride Month from UFCW!

This month and every month, we are proud to stand in solidarity with our 2SLGBTQ+ members and siblings from across the Union family.

🚨MN Half Price Books Workers are Organizing!🚨

“I’m choosing to unionize because I think that we as employees deserve to have our voices heard when it comes to our working conditions. We know our store’s needs more than policy-makers based in Texas,” said Kyle Riper, bookseller at Half Price Books Apple Valley.

Today, workers from Half Price Books in Apple Valley announced to their bosses that they have formed a Union and demanded Union recognition.

Half Price Books workers signed and submitted cards to the National Labor Relations Board to unionize with UFCW Local 663. They are fighting to secure higher wages, better staffing, and job protections.

A new national poll shows voters overwhelmingly believe electronic shelf labels and surveillance pricing will raise grocery prices, especially during emergencies and periods of high demand.

And most importantly, across party lines, Americans support banning them.

We deserve fair prices at the grocery store, not algorithms designed to maximize corporate profits.

Take action at the link below and tell lawmakers to keep electronic shelf labels out of your stores.

Sebastiana Panjoj Gonzalez, a meatpacking worker at JBS in Worthington, recently won $11,805 in backpay after discovering she had been underpaid for years.

After talking with coworkers, Sebastiana realized she was making less money than them for the same work. She brought the issue to her walking steward, Maria, and Union representative, Osmin. Together, they found that Sebastiana had been misclassified three years earlier and was being paid below the rate guaranteed in her Union contract.

📣HUGE WORKER WIN! ✊🏼Andrew, a UFCW 663 member at International Paper in Austin, MN was reinstated into his position after getting unfairly fired back in February, including all backpay--which was over $23k--and benefits!

Our Chief Steward, Cary, identified the unfair termination right away, and connected Andrew with our meatpacking director, Ruth Schultz, who negotiated the settlement.

Congrats Andrew!

We asked Gabe “What difference did having a Union make in this situation?”

Gabe put it simply: “What’s the difference between $0 and $6,000?”

Without a Union, Gabe would have been terminated from his job with no recourse. Click the link below to read about how Gabe used his Union to fight unjust termination.
