Huge shoutout to MTA member ATS for hosting a fantastic event in partnership with the Women In Trucking Association welcoming Girl Scouts for a hands-on introduction to the world of transportation and logistics.

Events like this are incredibly important for connecting young people with real-world experiences and role models, helping show that trucking truly offers opportunities for everyone.

If your company is interested in hosting events similar to this, the MTA Foundation has a Youth Engagement Toolkit to help! Find it here: https://www.mntrucking.org/toolkit

We are now in the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer” on the road—a period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when traffic volumes rise, travel increases, and crash rates historically climb across the country.

Whether you’re behind the wheel of a commercial truck or a passenger vehicle, small decisions make a big difference.

For truck drivers:
• Give yourself extra space—especially in heavier summer traffic and construction zones
• Expect sudden lane changes and distracted driving from other vehicles
• Slow down early and increase following distance in high-congestion areas
• Stay extra alert at merge points and ramps where traffic patterns shift quickly

For passenger vehicle drivers:
• Don’t cut off large trucks—they need significantly more distance to stop safely
• Avoid lingering in blind spots (“no zones”)
• Pass trucks decisively and avoid moving back in too soon
• Put distractions away—phones are one of the biggest contributors to summer crashes

Everyone shares the road, and everyone has a role in keeping it safe. A few extra seconds of patience can prevent a lifetime of consequences.

After 30 years of dedicated leadership and service to Minnesota’s trucking industry, MTA President John Hausladen has announced his plans to retire effective March 31, 2027.

John has been a passionate advocate for trucking and a respected leader at both the state and national level. Through his leadership, MTA has strengthened its voice, expanded member value, and grown into a strong and strategically focused organization.

John will continue serving as President through March 2027 to help ensure a smooth transition as MTA begins the search for the association’s next leader.

We are incredibly grateful for John’s leadership, commitment, and lasting impact on MTA and the trucking industry. There will be many opportunities in the months ahead to celebrate his contributions and recognize the legacy he leaves behind.
