The Ham Radio Basics Series continues with a special guest, Larry Banks, W1DYJ. Larry will take us on a journey through FT8, the revolutionary digital mode that’s taken amateur radio by storm. From setup to successful contacts, he’ll show you how to get on the air with FT8 and explore the world of digital DXing. Don’t miss this chance to learn from a highly experienced operator, educator, and long-time contributor to the New England ham community.

In Hingham, The South Shore Model Railroad Club and Museum is having an Open House on Saturday, August 2, 2025. The Bare Cove Fire Museum will also be open, rain or shine, 10-1. The Fire Museum admission is free, and the members are friendly. There are a few early radios and the fire engines that were used in Hingham and on display. One of the first transceivers along with a 1922 Maxim ladder, a 1924 Maxim pumper, a 1927 Maxim pumper and a 1935 Ahrens-Fox pumper are part of the collection. There is also an Amoskeag Steamer, Worcester Engine 3, on loan from the Worcester Fire Museum. There are many artifacts that were used in Hingham during the early days of the settlement. We have a small toy table to distract the young ones. We are handicapped accessible and are pet friendly.
BCFM President Dave C**n will be hosting this event, and this would be a good time to chat with him and other Fire Museum members.
