The songs. The memories. The feeling. That’s what Giving Day is all about.

In just a few days, we’re coming together as a community to make sure future campers get to experience that same sense of belonging. And this year, every gift will go even further. Stay tuned. We’re getting close.

Message from Michelle R Molan:

About once a month I go visit my stepdad for Shabbat service and dinner. (My mom passed away 2 years ago) It is a crowd of mostly 90+ year olds (he’s young at 82!] but it is always enjoyable. Last night, it was entirely a service through song. The joy in these people, the uplifting spirit, the ruach was palpable and I felt like I was 10 again back at camp. With the world in such a state, it was good to be reminded of happier times. Camp Tevya gave me much of my Jewish knowledge, my Jewish identity and certainly many memories of singing with joy in my heart. Been a while since I felt this.

Tribute from Deborah Portnoy:

Bobby Newman was my Dalia prince in 1978. He is absolutely one of the people whose name for me is synonymous with Tevya. Almost 50 years later he responded to a post I had made on Facebook. He reached out to me privately and wanted to help with my extremely challenging situation with my autistic son who had aged out of the school system and we were drowning in life, not being able to find the right services to support our family through his adult years. He really had no connection to autism, but he did to me through Tevya and so he sought out to do research and find information that would be helpful to expose California for the discrepancies in services between those that need some support, versus those that require a 24/7 care commitment for the rest of their lives. He and I conversed and I felt incredibly grateful that someone out of my past, so long ago would care about my current circumstances.
He was empathetic and kind and curious. Unfortunately, he got too sick to keep on this path with me, so I instead turned to following him in his cancer journey. It makes me sad that he is gone and that he fought so hard to beat it. He brought joy, laughter and real intellectual conversations to many. This kind of individual is hard to find in the world these days. He will be missed.

A tribute to Bobby from Ron Lederman:

Bobby was 6 years younger than me but we reconnected as adults and spent many hours talking about life, the world and so many great memories of Tevya and the people who made Tevya so special - Bobby and his wife Sarah came to Sarasota a few summers ago to spend time with us and it was terrific - Bobby was a passionate guy in everything he said and did - he was real - what you heard and saw - was what you got - losing Phil Drasner and now Bobby should put everything in perspective to what’s the most important things in life - health family and friends - it was an honor to know him and call him a friend - you are now at peace ! Message from Lauren:

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about where Jewish kids, young adults and even adults actually get to feel fully themselves-not quietly, not carefully, just openly and proud.

For me, that place keeps coming back to camp.

In my most recent blog post, I wrote about how in a world that feels heavier and more uncertain, camp has become even more of a place to exhale, to sing, to celebrate Shabbat, wear Jewish symbols with pride, build relationships with Israeli staff, and feel held by community.

If this resonates with you, I hope you’ll give it a read it and share your feedback.

And I’d genuinely love to hear: where have you or your kids felt that kind of belonging this year?💙

In a world that shifted dramatically post October 7th, one of the things that camp not only continued to provide, but strengthened, was our connection to Judaism and the Jewish […]
