Cantor Silverman’s Shabbat message for the fist Shabbat of Pride Month lifts up the Torah’s call to build communities rooted in compassion, justice, love, and sacred dignity.

She celebrates TOS’s participation in Shivyon, Keshet’s Equality Project, and reflects on the meaningful steps our community is taking to strengthen LGBTQ+ inclusion in synagogue life.

This month, we also look forward to gathering in celebration and solidarity: first at the Second Annual Interfaith Pride Service this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at United Parish, and then next Friday at 6:00 p.m. for Pride Shabbat services at TOS.

“May your still, small voice rise up to your hearing, and may it bring you peace.”

Rabbi Berkman’s Shabbat message for Parashat Naso invites us into the quiet place where we can hear what is already speaking within us.
Drawing on the image of the “still, small voice,” Internal Family Systems, and the Priestly Blessing, Rabbi Berkman reflects on communication, divine presence, and the wisdom we can hear when the noise settles.

Cantor Silverman’s Shavuot message invites us back to Sinai — not only to remember the moment Torah was received, but to consider the responsibility that receiving Torah places on each of us.

She reflects on the radical dignity and moral agency entrusted to every Israelite: a covenantal responsibility carried not only by leaders or priests, but by ordinary Jews in every generation.

Shabbat Shalom! In this week’s Shabbat message, Rabbi Berkman invites us to approach Jewish learning with curiosity, openness, and our full selves.

She reminds us that on Shavuot, we do not only remember Sinai—we stand there again. With an expansive understanding of Torah study that includes Jewish text, values, culture, ritual, music, art, food, and tradition, each of us can find our way into the story that already lives in us.

Read Rabbi Berkman’s full message at ohabei.org/tos-blog, and join us next week as we celebrate Shavuot and stand together at Sinai.

Shabbat Shalom!

Reflecting on Behar-Bechukotai, Cantor Silverman turns from the heaviness of the Tochechah toward the hope that follows it: even in darkness, God does not abandon the Jewish people. This message reminds us that the final word is not destruction, but covenant.

Shabbat Shalom.

In the Shabbat message this week, Cantor Silverman reflects on Acharei Mot–K’doshim and the enduring Torah teaching, “V’ahavta l’reiacha kamocha — Love your neighbor as yourself.” She reminds us that holiness is not distant or abstract, but something we embody through daily acts of care, honesty, compassion, and connection.

As Yom HaZikaron gives way to Yom HaAtzmaut, we carry memory into celebration. Today we give thanks for the State of Israel — a homeland for the Jewish people, a refuge, a place in which Hebrew was reborn, and a culture of Jewish resilience, courage and hope. As we mark Israel's 78th birthday, we recommit ourselves to a democratic and shared society in Israel. May all who dwell in Israel and in the region know peace, safety, dignity and security.

On Yom HaZikaron, we join with Jews in Israel and around the world in remembering Israel’s fallen soldiers and all those killed in acts of terror. We hold their memories with grief, gratitude, and love, and we pray for comfort for all who mourn. Zichronam livracha — may their memories be for a blessing.

Shabbat Shalom.

In the Shabbat message this week, Rabbi Berkman reflects on this season of Yom HaShoah, Yom HaZikaron, and Yom HaAtzmaut, and on what it means to stay in relationship with Israel through challenge, confusion, grief, and hope. Read her full message at Ohabei.org/tos-blog
