Many thanks to all of our supporters who have contributed so generously to our organization. Over the years we have helped hundreds if not thousands of children and healthcare providers in Lesotho. Lives have been saved and spirits lifted because of our work.

Our Board members deserve special thanks for their hard work and dedication over the years. It is time to close our doors.

To continue our support of the organizations in Lesotho, two of our Board members, Elizabeth Ziemba and Irving Stackpole, have joined the Board of Global Primary Care, a non-profit organization affiliated with Boston Medical Center and the Boston University School of Public Health. Their LeBoHa program has been running for more than a decade building the healthcare infrastructure in Lesotho. Their work inspires us. Please consider contributing to their efforts.

Oxfam has released a report about the long term costs associated with the management contract of the new hospital in Lesotho. I find it hard to believe that the government would sign the contract without running the numbers to determine the cost of the services and the impact on the country's health care budget. If this report is correct, the impact on this poor country could be devastating.

(GIN)—The health budget of one of Africa’s poorest and least healthy countries could be bankrupted by a privately-run hospital envisioned by the World Bank’s private sector arm as the future of African health care.

A New Movie Filmed in Lesotho

"The Forgotten Kingdom", a film about a young man growing up in Lesotho, has opened in South Africa. Remember the SHARED event in 2006 when we hosted an exclusive showing of "Prince Harry and the Forgotten Kingdom"? SHARED could try to host this film for a funding raising event. What do you think about that idea?
Watch the trailer for the movie.

Sushi from landlocked Lesotho is a hit in Japan!
Trout from Lesotho is being sold directly to a Japanese retail market, fetching top dollar and demonstrating that thinking outside the box can reap rewards even in a poor, remote country like Lesotho.

KATSE DAM, Lesotho, March 20 (Reuters) - The idea ofJapanese consumers eating sushi exported from a tiny Africancountry with no coastline may sound improbable, but the kingdomof Lesotho is pulling it

The World Bank confirms what public health workers already know - that coordinated TB testing of miners in South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique would conserve resources and contain the spread of the disease. Now it is up to the governments of these 4 countries to coordinate their efforts for the health of the region.

Southern African countries could realise huge savings if they tested and treated all mineworkers in gold and platinum industries for TB, says World Bank study

A belated thanks to our volunteers who wrapped for a cause for us at that Barnes & Noble at the Prudential Center. We had a great crew who raised more than $1,500 by wrapping gifts and charming customers. Every dollar raised was donated to Touching Tiny Lives in Lesotho to cover costs of medicines and medical supplies for the children cared for by their dedicated team. Way to go!

Much needed financial and technical assistance is heading to Lesotho to battle the HIV/AIDS epidemic that still rages in this beautiful corner of the world that seems forgotten.

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is pleased to announce the expansion of its HIV and AIDS treatment and prevention programs in six districts in Lesotho.

In 2008-2009, SHARED funded a garden at Touching Tiny Lives, a safe house for children in Lesotho, including the planting of fruit trees. Fresh fruit is a delicacy in Lesotho, adding nutritional benefits and yummy flavor to the children's diet. The produce can be sold to generate cash for the organization that can use the proceeds to meet its other needs. After five long years, the trees are finally bearing fruit - literally and figuratively!

There is nothing like taking inspiration from a 5th grader. SHARED has support Beautiful Gate in the past and it is gratifying to see her excellent work for this worthwhile organization. Does it give you any fundraising ideas for our community based partners in Lesotho?
