Recognizing the urgent need for a place where teens could learn, grow and have fun, Brookline natives, Paul Epstein, a Brookline High School social worker and his wife, Saskia, a non-profit director, engaged a group of Brookline leaders and teens to explore the possibility of creating a teen center in Brookline in 2005. The vision was to create a place where Brookline youth could spend their out-o

f-school time in a safe place with both formal and informal activities centered around academic enrichment, physical activity, and socio-emotional health. In this way, the Teen Center will meet the need of local teens for a constructive, entertaining and affordable place to spend their out of school time and will be one of the only teen-only centers like it in the local area.

Teen of the Month: Izaiah Surita! Izaiah is a teen staff member working at the BTC this Summer. After hearing about the BTC from his friends, he applied to work here for the Summer, and has become a wonderful member of our team! From leading gym games to collaborating with our Youthscapers and building real connections with teens, Izaiah has been outstanding. When asked what's something people may not know about the BTC, he answered, "It's a community and family here; people will sit and talk to you if you're alone and get to know you. You can build bonds here."

The BTC employee of the month is Jackson! Jackson is a social work intern who promotes mental health awareness and serves as a trusted adult for our teens to confide in. He also helps the programming staff with daily life at the BTC. Jackson’s favorite programs at the BTC are Anatomy Academy and Mahjong, which happens every Wednesday during the school year! He shares that the best part of working at the BTC is the people and the teens, emphasizing how everyone helps make the space so special. We are lucky to have Jackson on our team!
