Recognizing the urgent need for a place where teens could learn, grow and have fun, Brookline natives, Paul Epstein, a Brookline High School social worker and his wife, Saskia, a non-profit director, engaged a group of Brookline leaders and teens to explore the possibility of creating a teen center in Brookline in 2005. The vision was to create a place where Brookline youth could spend their out-o

f-school time in a safe place with both formal and informal activities centered around academic enrichment, physical activity, and socio-emotional health. In this way, the Teen Center will meet the need of local teens for a constructive, entertaining and affordable place to spend their out of school time and will be one of the only teen-only centers like it in the local area.

We want to share that the BTC employee of the month is Elwyn! Elwyn is a Program Specialist who runs BTC’s College and Career program, taking teens to explore educational opportunities outside of Massachusetts. Elwyn’s favorite program to facilitate within BTC is Cooking with Elwyn, which happens every Friday! He notes the best part of working at the BTC is “getting the opportunity to work with and know all of our teens,” and adds that “it wouldn’t be possible” without the help of his fellow coworkers.

High school members and staff are back from the April Break trip to Washington, D.C., and it was amazing!

We explored four campuses, Howard, Georgetown, American, and George Washington University, and visited museums, monuments, and enjoyed local culture.

While touring, teens learned about academic programs and student life, giving them a firsthand look at what it might be like to attend college outside of New England. Experiences like these inspire, motivate, and open doors - Huge thank you to everyone who made this trip possible!

Woke up to another fun day of exploration and discovery on our ecology field trip on Nantucket. Middle schoolers connected coastal ecosystems, local agriculture, and maritime history to understand how environmental systems and human activity shape and sustain the island’s landscape.
