Recognizing the urgent need for a place where teens could learn, grow and have fun, Brookline natives, Paul Epstein, a Brookline High School social worker and his wife, Saskia, a non-profit director, engaged a group of Brookline leaders and teens to explore the possibility of creating a teen center in Brookline in 2005. The vision was to create a place where Brookline youth could spend their out-of-school time in a safe place with both formal and informal activities centered around academic enrichment, physical activity, and socio-emotional health. In this way, the Teen Center will meet the need of local teens for a constructive, entertaining and affordable place to spend their out of school time and will be one of the only teen-only centers like it in the local area.

Teen of the Month: Casan Wilson! Casan is a teen staff member who worked at the BTC this summer. Casan was incredibly helpful, running gym games, doing yard work with our Youthscapers team, and supporting our volunteer efforts. While at the BTC, Casan loves to play basketball, but when he’s not under our roof, his favorite BTC program is our Beyond the Classroom College Tours. Why? Because he and other teens get to travel to different cities and regions of the U.S. to map out their next chapter in life with the support of our committed staff.

Congratulations, Casan. Thank you for being an important part of our community.👏

That’s a wrap on an amazing summer!

From teen employment through our drop-in activities and Youthscapers program to field trips as far away as New Orleans and workforce development, our teens made the most of every opportunity. We fished on George’s Island, spent a day at Castle Beach, and took on Six Flags while making an impact volunteering at local nonprofits!

We’re incredibly proud of our teens and grateful to everyone who helped make these experiences possible.

Now, we’re looking ahead to another great school year filled with opportunities to learn, connect, explore, and grow. The BTC will resume programming tomorrow, September 10th!

Through our Beyond the Classroom program, 15 teens from BTC, Steps to Success Brookline, and St. Stephen's Youth Programs traveled to New Orleans to explore a new city, tour LSU, Xavier University, and Tulane University, and experience HBCUs firsthand.

Teens worked hard to fundraise their way onto this trip, making it even more meaningful. We’re so proud of their dedication and grateful for the opportunity to give them access to new places and experiences.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported our students along the way, and to JetBlue for helping us get there! We couldn’t have made this experience happen without you. 💜🙌
