Brookings Rangers

Brookings Rangers page of the Brookings Ice Skating Association BISA will strive to provide players with equal ice time consistent with their level of play.

The philosophy of the BISA hockey program is that each player will have an equal opportunity to participate and enjoy the world’s fastest team sport. The objective of the program is to develop a positive attitude, good sportsmanship and a winning spirit. Teamwork and cooperation by players and coaches both on and off the ice is necessary. Anything less is unacceptable

Cooper Deatherage was a role model for so many people who knew and loved him. He was a true leader on and off the ice as a Brookings Rangers Hockey player and as an extraordinary person. His passion and dedication touched the lives of many people as he lead by example and treated everyone with respect and kindness. Cooper you are the true definition of a team player, dear friend, beloved family member and an amazing person.
Through the generosity of Cooper’s parents Chad and Tracey, several family members and friends that want to keep the light of Cooper’s life shining bright forever, The Cooper Deatherage Scholarship Fund has been established with the Brookings Rangers through First Bank & Trust.
The Deatherage’s and the Rangers family will honor the memory and legacy of Cooper for eternity by making a difference for graduating seniors through Coopers memorial scholarship fund.
We love you Cooper and your family. May your light continue to shine on all of us and your legacy live in our hearts forever.
Donations for The Cooper Deatherage Scholarship Fund can be mailed to BISA or delivered to the visitation and funeral.
Please make checks payable to Brookings Ice Skating Association (BISA) and write The Cooper Deatherage Scholarship Fund in the memo line.

Players and their families become family the day they join the Rangers. Today we mourn one of our own. #17 Cooper Deatherage has left us too early at the age of 19. He’s now at peace. Our hearts bleed today for Tracey, Chad, Morgan, Emma and their family.
We honor Cooper today the RANGERS WAY. In honor and memory of Cooper we are asking our entire hockey family near and far to leave a hockey stick out tonight with a light on and fly those hockey flags at half mast.
R.I.P. Buddy.

Some people leave a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know them. Today we remember an amazing man, a true friend, and a dedicated supporter of Rangers Hockey.

He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Cubby’s is closed today, May 22, as we mourn the loss of our friend and teammate, Deutsch.

We may never know the why, so instead, we choose to focus on how grateful we are to have been a part of Deutsch’s life.

On the hard days, we’ll gather with family and friends over a cold beer, catch a baseball game, or find ourselves outdoors doing the things he loved…working in the garden, out on a hunt, or waiting patiently for a fish to bite.

In the toughest moments, we’ll lean on one of his many perfectly timed one-liners, and somehow, we’ll laugh through it.

And as we learn to navigate this life without our friend beside us, we’ll use his words as our guide, “Never take any day for granted. Don’t take your loved ones for granted. Love your friends harder. Do your best to be a good person.”

‼️🏒 RANGERS SEASON SUMMARY 🏒‼️

As the season comes to a close we can’t thank our players, coaches, referees, rink staff, parents, alumni, and sponsors enough! We continue to raise the bar every year in how we define success for hockey in South Dakota. It takes a family to sustain a winning culture that is backed by consistency from one age level to the next. The pride our family takes in playing for the Rangers is what separates us from the rest. You build a program starting with belief and stand on the evidence.

Here is the evidence from the 2025-2026 season.

Peewee A League and State Champions
Bantam B League and State Champions
Bantam A League and State Champions
Junior Varsity League and State Champions
Sq**rt A: Undefeated in SDAHA Regular Season

Congratulations to all of the teams adding years to the banners at the Larson Ice Center!

We will see you in the fall!
