Juneteenth 2026 commemorates 161 years since June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned they were free. This historic moment came more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued and remains a powerful symbol of freedom and strength. This year also marks five years since Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, helping more people learn about this important part of American history.
Juneteenth is a time to celebrate freedom and honor the strength, courage, and achievements of Black Americans. It is also a time to remember that everyone should have equal opportunities to succeed. As we recognize this day, we can learn from the past, listen to one another, and work together to build welcoming communities where everyone feels valued and respected.
You can honor Juneteenth by attending local events, supporting Black-owned businesses, learning about Black history and culture, or talking with family and friends about the meaning of freedom and equality. Juneteenth gives us all a chance to learn, grow, and help create a brighter future for everyone.

Oregon Women Veterans: Your voice matters.

The Advisory Committee to the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs (ODVA) has launched a short, confidential survey to better understand the needs, challenges, and priorities of Women Veterans across Oregon.

Oregon Women Veterans are one of the fastest-growing veteran communities in the state, and their experiences play an important role in shaping future services and support. The survey takes approximately five minutes to complete, does not collect personal identifying information, and will remain open from June 1–30.

Women Veterans statewide are encouraged to participate, and community partners are invited to help share the survey within their networks.

Learn more and take the survey online by visiting https://oregondva.com/2026/06/01/advisory-committee-to-odva-launches-statewide-survey-for-women-veterans/
