There is something special about the rodeo community that is hard to put into words. It is a sport built on grit, tradition, and a shared love for the Western way of life. Over the past year, I have had the incredible honor of representing the SDSU Rodeo Team not only as a competitor but also as an ambassador for the program and the sport that has shaped so much of who I am. When I first stepped into this role, I knew it would be an opportunity to promote a team and lifestyle that I care deeply about. What I did not fully realize was just how meaningful the experience would become. Throughout this year, I had the privilege of meeting rodeo fans, alumni, sponsors, and fellow queens who all share the same passion for the rodeo industry. Being able to represent South Dakota State University and the SDSU Rodeo Team at rodeos, events, and even elementary schools was something I will forever be grateful for. Every handshake, conversation, and “Go Jacks!” reminded me how strong and supportive the rodeo community truly is. Serving as an ambassador gave me a deeper appreciation for everything that goes into this sport beyond the arena, a side I hadn’t seen as a competitor. Rodeo is as much about the competition as it is the people, the traditions, and the responsibility we carry to represent our industry in a positive way. This role allowed me to grow not only as a representative of SDSU Rodeo but also as a leader and advocate for the western lifestyle. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to share my love for rodeo while proudly representing the Jackrabbit community.
This year would not have been possible without the incredible support system behind me. I would like to
thank my family and friends for always encouraging me, and Kenzie (JRSA 2024) and Tammy (coordinator) for sharing all of their knowledge. I am also deeply grateful to the SDSU Rodeo Team, Coach Ron, sponsors, and supporters who continue to invest in this program and provide opportunities for students like me to succeed both in and out of the arena.
As this chapter comes to a close, I look forward to the next step in my journey. After graduating from South Dakota State University in May, I will take one step closer to my goal of becoming a veterinarian and will be starting my education at the Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine this fall. Through my experiences with SDSU Rodeo, I have gained an even greater understanding of the rodeo and livestock industries, and I hope to carry that knowledge with me into my future career. I can’t wait to continue serving the agricultural and western communities that have given me so much. Although my time holding this title is ending, my passion for rodeo and for SDSU will never fade. It has been an honor to represent this team and this university, and I will always be proud to call myself a Jackrabbit.
Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving as your ambassador.
Go Big. Go Blue. Go Jacks.
All my love,
Brooklyn Goelz
