Labor Day tends to mark the end of summer and our final barbecue weekend here in SoDak, but it was originally intended to pay tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. It became a federal holiday back in 1894 created by the labor movement of the late 19th century which worked to better unsafe and unhealthy working conditions and workers' rights.
