As we head into Memorial Day (and the unofficial start of summer) we'd like to remind everyone that May is Wildfire Awareness Month. Over 70% of Oregon wildfires are caused by humans and we encourage everyone to be careful while you're out enjoying the beautiful weather. And please take a moment to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice...

When the Cascadia earthquake hits, roads will buckle, bridges may fall, and Oregon's coastal communities could be cut off for weeks. That's where we come in.ODART — the Oregon Disaster Airlift Response Team — is an all-volunteer nonprofit that organizes general aviation pilots, ground crews, and HAM radio operators to deliver food, water, medical supplies, and emergency power by air when the ground routes are gone.We don't wait for the disaster to figure it out. We train, plan, and exercise year-round so we're ready on Day One.Learn more at odart.org

The latest CBA newsletter is out now, and it shares some encouraging news from the South Coast.

From the first completed burn in Agness to the successful finish of the Certified Burn Manager Course, this newsletter highlights what is possible when local volunteers, Indigenous fire practitioners, agencies, and community partners come together. It is a powerful reminder that returning good fire to the land is not just about fuel reduction — it is also about relationship, knowledge sharing, and stewardship.

Although we are not in fire season yet, the weather is getting warmer and dryer. We are asking the public to please use caution when burning outdoors. By using these tips to practice safe debris burning you can help prevent an accidental wildfire.

- Keep water and tools nearby
-Dont burn on dry windy days
-Dont leave your debris burn unattended
-Make sure your fire is completely out and cool to the touch before you leave.

There is no set date for fire season to start in the Coos Forest Protective Association district for 2026 as of yet.

🔥Fire restrictions have posted! 🔥
As temps rise across Oregon & Washington, we're putting fire restrictions in place to help prevent wildfires.
That means:
🚫No fireworks
🚫No exploding/metallic targets
🚫No tracer rounds or sky lanterns

🎆We know there’s a lot to celebrate this year with America’s 250th anniversary and BLM’s 80th birthday, but one spark is all it takes to start a wildfire. Let’s protect our lands, communities & first responders. Check on active closures and restrictions before your adventures at https://ow.ly/eQ9m50YZcoK
