A Grateful Reflection on Our 4th of July Celebration

Last night’s fireworks show was a resounding success, one made possible by hundreds of volunteer hours, the generosity of local businesses, and countless donations from individuals who believe in the power of our community.

To us, fireworks are not just a show. They bring together friends and strangers alike. They transcend politics, religion, and all the things that seem to try to divide us. Rather, fireworks remind us of all the things that unites us instead. Our freedoms, our shared future & past, and the history that shaped this nation.

The 4th of July is about family, food, celebration, and creating memories that last a lifetime. It’s about honoring what makes America worth cherishing and protecting. We hope that, like us, you felt that same spirit of unity, pride, and joy this Independence Day.

We are deeply honored to be a part of the Brookings-Harbor community. Thank you for your continued trust and support.

A few quick reminders for this year's events in Beautiful Brookings Harbor Oregon...

1) Fireworks launch at 10pm sharp from the Jetty on Sporthaven Beach.

2) KURY 95.4FM will be playing patriotic music in time with the show.

3) Our flyover presented by the 173rd Fighter Wing, from Kingsley Field around 10:50 in the morning!

4) For safety, we will be shutting down access to Sporthaven Beach by closing down the roads that lead in and out of the RV park. Drop off areas will be available at either gate, and parking will be available by the Port, the Coast Guard or on the Kite field.

5) Tomorrow is a +6' tide. If you are on the beach, please set up higher than normal.

6) Beach cleanup will be at 9am July 5th. Feel free to join us, and the volunteers from Living Waters Foursquare Church.

7) The Harbor Fire department is hosting a fundraising BBQ in Foxy's parking lot all weekend. Please stop by and grab a burger!

8) There's a lot going on at the Port of Brookings Boardwalk with the Sky High 4th of July events. Check out their link, or their schedules in the photos for great food, cold beer, the fishing derby and lots more.

9) Events like the Fireworks are neither easy nor cheap. Happy Sunday everyone!

Believe it or not, the 4th of July — and our annual fireworks show — is only 114 (or fewer) days away! That means we don’t have much time to raise money for the show.

However, fear not, dear reader — we already have some amazing sponsors: South Coast Lumber Co. & Affiliates, Lucky 7 Casino, Port of Brookings-Harbor, Travel Curry Coast, and the City of Brookings, and we’re just getting started! This week, Beacon Broadband (powered by Coos-Curry Electric), Wild River Pizza, and our very own Brookings Dairy Queen have also stepped up to assist.

But we still need your help. Santa gets all the credit, but we all know it’s the elves, the reindeer, and Mrs. Claus who make the magic happen. In the same way, even with the tremendous support of the businesses listed above, we’ve still got a long way to go to decorate the proverbial 4th of July Christmas tree in red, white, and blue.

As you read this message, I sincerely ask you to consider stepping up. It can be as easy as donating $5, $10, or $25. You could also email us to volunteer or ask for a sponsorship form to take to your employer for their consideration.

Some dude named Albert Einstein called compound interest the 8th wonder of the world. I never met him, but he sounds smart. Every donation, regardless of size, matters — little things compound into big results. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is our fireworks fund! Fireworks really are a picture of the power of compounding interest: the more people who get interested, the more our community’s investment grows.
