One of my great privileges in my role as a volunteer leader for the Cross Keys Foundation is the opportunity to meet amazing scholars like Vy Tran. Her senior year at CK she was accepted at Stanford with a full ride. At first, she wouldn't even make the visit to California at their invitation because she couldn't justify the airfare in her mind. When finally convinced she initially planned to decline the scholarship out of guilt for "abandoning" her family who relied on her for household support. Luckily for all of us and her family she turned her fear and uncertainty into a brave decision to go. Ms. Tran finished her degree work this year and found time to create a new University supported program at Stanford to help minority students build networks in the medical field. She became the director of the program that is making a difference for hundreds of minority students at Stanford. She also managed to continue her lifelong love of service between semesters working in Mexico on health projects. What's next for Vy? She's been named a Fulbright Scholar and Cultural Ambassador to Mexico and will continue her life of service and high achievement in Oaxaca. My family has benefitted beyond measure by interacting with our amazing CK students and my son has a high standard to live up to based on these amazing young people and their role-modeling for him! For that matter, I, too, have been challenged to live up to the bar set by CK youth like Ms. Tran!

We are very fortunate to have such an amazing series of communities along Buford Hwy. This 11m short has a few nuggets of wisdom worth catching. It features my good friends, Victoria Huynh, our Brookhaven neighbor, Marian Lou, and the Cross Keys kids and teacher (my friend, Rebekah Morris) who started, "The BuHi Project."
